Very busy Thursday night so we were a bit concerned about how long we would have to wait for food, but service was prompt and efficient. Very friendly bar manager and a great ale selection. We had the sharing tapas type starter of hummus, bread, olives, nuts and chorizo which was lovely. Both had the steak pie and ships and... More

We stopped here a few years ago while walking on the wall and were impressed with the food. This time we thought we'd have more of the same. Two of us ordered burgers, a tad expensive at £8.00 each. My youngest ordered chicken with smiley potatoes and was disappointed to have hers served with chips. I ordered a vegetable tagine... More

Walking the Hadrian's wall walk we stopped in the area and had dinner at the pub since it was up the road and there was nothing near by. We expected to pay dearly for the food. In fact it was good pub food and good prices. Since everything in the area deals only in cash I was afraid that it... More

Had dinner here whist staying on Hadrians Wall. Service and food was excellent. The manager was very engaging and we had a good chat about the Winter Spine race. I was dining on my own and feling pretty unwell after a tough days walking but was made to feel very welcome and at home. Background music choice was excellent.

About 100m down the road from Vallum Lodge where we were staying this was the only/closest we had for beer/food. They had a decent selection of ales for our refreshments after the 3rd leg of our Hadrian's Wall walk, and we returned here for dinner after we checked in at the B&B. The atmosphere was typical English pub, with locals... More

Goo, no nonsense British food - at reasonable prices. Chips could be better but that's a matter of taste. My wife and I visited this evening and I had a marvelous steak pie. The restaurant is easy to get to - get onto the Military Road and head west from Hexham - OR if coming from Carlisle along the A69... More

3 good sized sausages... The sausage of the day was Spanish Style and it was just the right amount of spicy. The veg and mustard mash were well cooked and very tasty but the portion size of both was too small! The pubs own twice brewed ale was decent.

Called in for lunch after a week in the lake district and had the best Sausages i`ve tasted after Cumberland Sausages from Workington. I had mustard mash and half a beer which was also excellent. Great service and nice staff. I will definitely use it as a stopping off point in the years to come.

We had a stop over to get brewed up here and a bite and then onwards to once brewed. :-) Nice pub homely. Lovely ales. Don't expect gastro pub as this isn't it. We had a sandwich that was excellent. It was reasonable. 4* is for the whole ambience and character , otherwise a 3*
