I'm honestly stunned that this restaurant has so many positive reviews. By modern standards, the tempura here would be considered terrible and significantly overpriced. You can get a better decent tempura meal in any office area, e.g. Shinjuku, during weekday lunch hour for less than 1,000 yen. The food is honestly outdated and pretty disappointing - most people, including myself,... More

I tried their tempura set menu. It was worth the price! I also love their clear soup as well as cucumber salad.

We went there as this restaurant was in the lonely planet. It wasn't too... More

Best tempura?! Depends on your taste. It was quite different than the tempura I'm used to, but in a hood way. The staff was friendly and the portions generous. Definitely worth the short wait.

One of the most memorable meals on my last trip to Tokyo and I must have liked it because I've marked it to go back and visit again next week when I'm vacationing with friends. I would get there when it opens - maybe a bit of a wait if you need American style seating (table and chairs) but worht... More

We actually found this place through WikiTravel which boasted that this was one of the best tempura restaurants in Tokyo. That seems a bit... much. At best this is a reasonable, average eatery serving 'okay' tempura. Choice is fairly limited (don't expect lots of vegetables which ordinary tempura places have), it's mainly shrimps (large and small) they do. The eatery... More

Actually we lost our way while finding this, but we seek help from the Japanese folks and we got here in no time! We just told them 'Tempura' and they started pointing out the directions. Seems like Tempura Daikokuya is no stranger in Asakusa. Actually dining in Tokyo isn't cheap at all and this is no exception. If I'm not... More

Our personal tour guide brought us here for lunch before visiting the Sensoji Buddhist Temple, which is right next to the restaurant. For a huge restaurant (two storeys) that specializes in tempura, food was a little disappointing. Menu was extensive and service was really good. Unfortunately, the food did not deliver. My BF ordered a tenpura don, it arrived with... More

Had lunch here and I ordered the shrimp tendon, which is four large shrimp on rice for about $20 USD. My wife ordered the tempura set which came with a few pieces of tempura, miso soup, rice and an appetizer for about the same amount. I found the tempura shrimp to have a decent flavor, but soggy. I prefer my... More
