Good but overpriced tempura, a 100% tourist restaurant

Good food and service, everyone was very attentive and nice. The tempura was indeed very tasty but so was the tempura we ate the previous night at 30% less cost and without the 10% service fee that this restaurant added, which is quite unusual in Japan (very few places add a service fee). The place... read more

Overall the food was OK. The experience of having a tempura master, cook in front of us was quite nice. The actual tempura batter was the best I sampled during my Japan visit and I did eat a lot of it over the course of the trip. However there are some overriding problems namely with the price of food. This... More

The most amazing tempura we have ever ate. Small, lovely and quiet restaurant in Shinjuku. There are no so many choices in the menu but you won't be lost because there is an English version of it. if you are looking for a good tempura this is your place, my dinner was amazing. Moreover, all served in the japanese way... More

Tenkane is truly a restaurant worthy of a visit in Tokyo, a city of great restaurants. Following a 100+ year tradition of finely prepared tempura as a complete meal, they have honed the cuisine to the finest execution to be found. The menu is quite traditional, and the variety of flavors and delicacies is a delight to the senses. If... More

This is the second time I have been here and like the first it did not disappoint! This is a very authentic tempura restaurant with great food and fun atmosphere. The chef is a 4the generation tempura chef and knows exactly what he is doing. Great way to taste a lot of different foods at reasonable price.

We read about Tenkane (and their specialty in tempura) and were eager to try it. On our first attempt, they had just run out of food (because they buy as much as they think they will sell daily -- a great indicator of how fresh the ingredients are). We came by the next night and there was a party going... More

Though tempura is one of the most famous traditional Japanese food, you won't see as many specialized restaurants in Japan as sushi restaurants. This place has been one of the best for more than 100 years and definitely a must-visit-tempura restaurant. reasons why you should visit 1)quality of food: absolutely great. Each ingredients are cooked in perfect timing and served... More

Top quality ingredients, expertly and minimally prepared in order to not interfere with the quality of the raw materials. Prices are quite reasonable for what you get. Homey, more personable service. We dined here with our 7 and 9yo boys, and they were great.

First of all - restaurant run by a family, dating back more than 100 years - it is very traditional Japanese way of cooking tempura, with a modern twist. Simply beyond delicious. Choose a tempura course, and owner/Chef won't disappoint you. There are also 3 prix fix meals available. Expect to spent around $120.00- 150.00 / US/ per person, with... More

Went here with the wife for dinner early on a Tuesday evening, the restaurant was already three quarters full with locals but the owner was friendly and made us feel welcome in his pigeon English. Menu was available in English which was a huge help considering it was a complicated series of set menus available, not really compatible with my... More
