I am often travelling for business to Tokyo. It is our ritual that our last evening is spent in Yuian at the top of the Sumitomo tower in Shinjuku. The scenic view is incredible and I would highly recommend to reserve and to ask for a window seat. The inside setup and design are very nice, all on tatami in... More

Unfortunately it was too cloudy to see anything, but still the restaurant looked good, so we gave it a try. We took the set menu, even though I must admit, that I do not excactly eat just anything. My husband eats everything, but even he thought that only the sashimi was really good. The meat is way to fat for... More

We were introduced to the Sumitomo Building by a Japanese friend on a visit to Tokyo in 2009. He lives in Shinjuku and his local watering holes are situated on the top floors of this building. What an impression it made on us. There are four floors (49-52) of restaurants of varying cuisines. We first tried Yuian, an izakaya or... More

We were staying in a hotel across the street and came here for our last dinner in Tokyo. The restaurant is on the 52nd floor and the window tables have amazing views. Unfortunately, a large group had booked all of the window tables, so we ate in the bar area instead. The cheapest dinner set is about 3,675 yen +... More

I must agree with GlobalMarlena’s review. Go there to sip some drinks and have some appetizers with friends while enjoying a nice view of Tokyo, but not for the dining experience. Yuian is more like an izakaya than a restaurant. We have ordered the 6,500 yen seazonal course, but the dishes were nothing special. The place has a nice, stylish... More

Restaurant has good reviews on multiple websites but what a disappointment. Most dishes are very average with some being an all out disappointment.

Went to this great Japanese restaurant for my birthday dinner. Great night view of Shinjuku. Food was fantastic. Book in advance to make sure you get good views. We were lucky that we made reservations and we had a unblock view. And to make things even better, there were fireworks from the stadium. We were seated at the bar &... More
