Stylish Russian restaurant popular among Russian and Japanese in Tokyo

I always find it difficult to find a stylish Russian restaurant. But Sungari is stylish and serves high quality food. Reasonably Priced for large portion. I also like their selection of Georgian wines. They have many Russian staff. If you are Russian, you will feel like at home. And if you are... read more

Service was noticeably poor. Staffs were clearly focusing on specific customers more than on the others. Waiters were unprofessional in their approach towards foreign guests. Food was ok but nothing special and I wouldn't call it authentic Russian cuisine.

It was a great place for our date. Interesting to eat Russian food. The food was so delicious. I had a lime vodka soda and coffee vodka on rocks which were both great. I had the set course #2 with kebab and my girlfriend had the #1 course. Both were delicious. Jam came with the tea at the end of... More

My expectation was much higher than the reality.I drank one glass each of red and white wine. (should be Georgian) Even though they are the cheapest ones they offer as Georgian wines, it tasted like a cheap Japanese table wine. I prefer Turkish to Georgian then.Dishes served was so so i.e. not so tasty but also not so bad.Only good... More

Four of us (2 from Ukraine and 2 from Russia) visited this restaurant during our week long trip of Japan. We were a little tired of eating the sushi and noodles, which is the predominantly local cuisine. The pair we met on one of our tours, found this place as it was not far from their hotel in Shinjuku. If... More

The restaurant positioned itself as specialized in Russian cuisine, but in fact this is a rather simplified version of Western cuisine in general. Despite the fact that the dishes have a Russian names, all of them have rather strange and defiantly not authentic taste. Everything is not bad, the service is excellent, but is expensive even by Tokyo standards.

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighborhood Profile
Shinjuku
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
