Whale of a time

Nice restaurant, small friendly and cater for both locals and tourists. Prices are good, service is good and also understand that many tourist will come for the taboo meat.

Restaurant very small and yet intimate with soothing decoration and lighting. English menu available and though not many dishes, forgive my naivety, how many ways can you serve whale? And price was also good; 6000 yen for 2 people. Recommend for med budget travellers or diners.

The food is very good and they give lots of information about what kind of whale-meat you eat. It tasted very good. Best is whale sashimi and tongue :)

We got the sample platter which gives you whale in three ways: raw, marinated, and fried. Each and every bite was incredible and it was also nice to cook the marinated one on our own on the hibachi. Absolutely recommend to anyone visiting.

On my recent visit to Tokyo, one thing I knew I wanted to try was eating whale. This place is tucked in right behind Shibuya 109. It was about a five minute walk from the train station. The servers will tell you as soon as you walk in the door that this is a whale restaurant, so there should be... More

Whilst not very politically correct- it was a unique and truly Japanese experience. Staff are very helpful and make it clear on entry that they serve whale- so there can be no mix ups. Meals are a good size and very reasonably priced. The flavour is best compared to that of kangaroo, a gamey red meat. Restaurant is located behind... More

This restaurants upholds Japanese traditions at its best. Food and service are good, but the best is the atmosphere and the setting. For show my foreign friends Japan I always bring them here. Nobody was ever disappointed.

Coming to Japan, there were 2 foods I really wanted to try: Whale and Fugu (blowfish). Kujiraya was one of the few places near a train station so we decided to go for it. It was a fancier place (compared to surrounding restaurants) and centrally located in the Shibuya area. Food: We ordered a bunch of smaller appetizer-sized plates as... More

It took me awhile to find this restaurant, I gave up and was on the way back to the station when I stumbled upon it. Recognised the sign from a photo. Being a butcher exotic meats are a must. Essentially walk across the intersection at shibuyu station and you will see a building 109 on the front that is a... More

Staying in Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu

Neighborhood Profile
Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.
