Good but nothing special...

I was very excited to go there after i saw all these good reviews but... Isnt it actually a part of shirube s chain of restaurants? They have EXACTLY the same menu, even otoshi is similar. The best shirube (for atmosphere) is in Shimokitazawa. So no need to get so excited for 35 steps, it s nice... read more

Cured mackerel flame grilled right in front of you. Delicious mackerel ! I never had eat it prepared like that . The place is not easy to find ... You can enter via 2 ways , from the hotel ( elevator b1 floor )or down stair close to the hotel . Enjoy it !

We really wanted to incorporate an izakaya into our tokyo dining tour and 35 steps sounded the most interesting to us. You definitely need to book as this place is popular with locals and tourists alike. The place is absolutely buzzing and there was one female waitress who had so much personality and we caught her teasing one of the... More

we had our hotel book a table here and I'm so glad we went. Finding it is fun, you can gave a few warm up beers across the street at good faucets beer house. Go down the steps, yes keep going, down down, yes there is a restaurant down there. The place looks cool and we were given a spot... More

Loved the food here, really couldn't fault it. They had English menus and all the staff tried for the most part to help. They were a little awkward and gruff towards the end when it came to ordering etc but we enjoyed our meal and it had a cool izakaya (Jpanaese pub) vibe with the leg wells in the floor.

Great food and very lively atmosphere. It took us a few minutes to find as it feels like you're heading down a fire escape, the bottom of which doesn't seem to lead anywhere. But once inside, you'll find a vibrant open kitchen with a very good menu and fantastic prices. The sashimi was excellent, and the staff very friendly. They... More

Loved the whole experience. The atmosphere was awesome, food beautiful and well priced. Just the waiter was in a hurry to move us on or so it felt and we had one instance of lost in translation with a missing meal. But well worth the experience.

We went to 35 steps with our friends and had a great time! The ambience was fun and lively, staff was very friendly, and the food was delicious. Finding it was an experience in itself - Just look for the Shibuya City Hotel. The stairs to 35 steps are the ones leading down to the left of the hotel entrance.

No trip to Tokyo is complete without an Izakaya experience and for a gaijin this is one of the most accessible in the city. The area its in and the steps going down are a little suspicious, but once you get there you're in for a treat. My girlfriend and I split five plates and had a tad too much... More

Staying in Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu

Neighborhood Profile
Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.
