This is a tipical Japanese izakaya - so do not forget to take off your shoes before going in (we did). Food is prepared in front of you; it has a central cooking space around which you are stated so you can watch your food being prepared. We ordered everything off the menu - shrimps in batter, tuna tartar, dim... More

This is an ok nice place. I say this as I had better in a similar type of place in Tokyo. Food and service was nice enough - atmosphere a little lacking.

The 35 steps leading down to the restaurant looks dark and dingy but the actual interior of the place is very clean with an excellent vibe. All customers must take off their shoes before entering. The waiters are chatty and friendly. Food is delicious but not "wow". What makes the whole experience is the atmosphere of the place! We were... More

We found it without reading the directions stated in TA. Took a while but we counted the steps and found it! The ambiance is amazing. The food was great. truly a great experience.

We met friends who reserved a tucked-away booth which unlike most restaurants, was not relegated to a forgotten corner where service was lacking. Instead our waiter was in and checking on us often abut unobtrusively. He was also available at the call of "sumimasen!". The food was an array of traditional (sashimi), nouveau (cheese tofu served with honey), different (curly... More

This place had a great vibe, and we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table even though we hadn't booked and it was a busy Saturday night. Food was lovely, we particularly enjoyed the grilled saba, slightly cured mackerel that they grill at the table, but all the dishes we tried were delicious. The only minus was that... More

We learned about this restaurant from a forum and thanks to the tips from other reviewers on TA, we found the place without too much problem. We ordered the bamboo sake and it was delicious. Great start of the evening. Ordered three out of five top items, and they were spot on. Cheese tofu was creamy and tasty, the tuna/avocado... More

A challenge to find, which is part of the fun. Great atmosphere, wonderful staff, and lovely food. We were given a seat at the bar, where you can watch the chefs at work and chat with them. All of the food we had was good, as was the sake. It was very reasonably priced, too. Most definitely a place to... More

We spent a lot of time trying to find this place because it had such good reviews and when we finally managed to find it we were disappointed. We have had an amazing time in Japan and loved the people however for the first time ever we felt as though we were being treated differently. To find it you have... More

35 steps is so good I'm slightly reluctant to share it. Not the easiest to find, but if you put Shibuya City Hotel into an iphone map, you'll find it easily enough - it's downstairs in the same building. Also worth booking in advance or you'll probably have to wait a bit. I've been to quite a few good izakayas... More
