YMMV on the friendliness of the staff, but my wife and I had a great conversation with the bartender that made this stop memorable. We talked about several American breweries that we've been too or are near our home towns, such as Firestone, Coronado, Modern...Times, Russian River, etc. The beer selection is great; we tried a couple of Japanese craft beers, and we really enjoyed the Lush Hop IPA from Ise Kadoya. The beers were a bit expensive, though. Still, a cool hangout spot. Didn't try the food, so can't comment on that.More

We are from NYC and Chicago and love beer, especially craft beer. The two Japanese beers we had were very disappointing. The sakura beer tasted like Miller light with sakura flavor added, and the stout just was off. I cannot comment on prices relative to...other places in Tokyo, but relative to Kanazawa, prices are higher, portions smaller, and the quality of the beer is worse. The staff were cold and it felt like our presence, in the middle of operating hours when no one else was in the bar, was an imposition. Gyoza, however, were *very* delicious.More

We dropped by for one drink and did not want to leave. There was a good variety of beers on tap for us to work our way through and the company that came through the door was amazing too. A great venue for a very...fun night.More

I am a serious beer snob, and this is my favorite beer bar in Tokyo. It's actually two bars in one: a small standing bar and slightly less small sit down affair two doors down. You can order beer in one and take it back...to the other, though, as well as order food from either. Each has it's own atmosphere, but the beer lists are different and always changing. Great food and better beer. Though it's a it pricer than other beer bars in Tokyo, you get what you pay for.More

I asked for a Japanese beer, he seemed disappointed that I didn't want to try Belgian or American beers

Dropped in here yesterday for a quick beer on the way home from a little shopping - rolled out about 6 hours later a little worse for wear. What a great place - fantastic mixed crowd all very friendly. Beer selection is fabulous if a...little pricy. Will definitely visit again.More

As the title said, this is fantastic little spot in a non-descript local in trendy Shimokitazawa. Its up there with my favourite 3 craft beer spots in Tokyo. The Beers here are fantastic, you get some spectacular and unique brews that you won't find anywhere...else. For those who love their craft beers, it is an absolute must on the Tokyo Beer scene. The food is decent, and well priced, however the beers are quite expensive though this seems to be the same with most of the craft beer specialists in Tokyo. Definitely worth a visit...or twoMore

Great beer, reasonable food (but you go for the beer rather than for the food) and Shimo- is still cool as. Food menu is in Japanese only, but the beer menu is in English/Romaji for those who are taking notes.

Fantastic collection of Japanese and imported micro beers, with very good food. Two real ale pumps, usually with local real ales. Two locations, almost side by side, one a standing bar, and one a sit down restaurant, with slightly different beers on the menu, but...you can wander from the one to the other.More

Tucked away in a side street at the east end of Shimokitazawa, this beer bar (and its sister bar in the same building) is a pleasant spot to stop for an ale. Shiga Kogen beers are available on tap. You'll pay 1,000 yen for a...pint and about 700 yen for a half. One of the bars is non smoking, inside is tight but there's a narrow balcony that is a chill place to hang out to enjoy your beverage.More
