Lovely setting, lovely service

It's hard to find bad food in Japan, so distinguishing between the various levels of "good" can be difficult. Yagenbori is very good, without being pretentious or over-the-top expensive. Yagenbori serves Kyoto-style multi course meals. The food is very good. The prices are high. The service is meticulous and friendly.

Yagenbori serves a set, multi-course menu based on fresh seasonal ingredients, for reasonable prices (8000, 10000, or 12000 yen per diner -- not cheap but not stratospheric). The food is consistently very good and sometimes sublime. The restaurant is decorated with prints, napkins, and coasters by the late Clifton Karhu.
