Theatrics amidst busy tourist restaurant

Great atmosphere though the best seats are around the kitchen. Food is good but not great and service is a little sloppy.

We had our last dinner in gonpachi. Aside from the great view, the yakitori and squid tempura were great. The waiters also understand and speak fluent english, which is a plus. Also, you can stay late night since they open until 3am.

We've eaten at quite a range of Japanese restaurants, so having seen some of the reviews here we were ready for it being a bit sub-standard and touristy. We chose it as it was near our hotel on our last night in Japan and had to rise early for our flight. Yes, it was difficult to find but with the... More

Me and 7 buddies walked 10 minutes from the place we were staying at over to Gonpachi. The setting and atmosphere is good but the service was terrible. The waiter was definitely trying his best and spoke perfect English but other tables didn't get cleaned, constant requests for receipt corrections and long wait for food! That wasn't even us... Who knew that a 5 minute walk from our hotel (Grand Pacific Le Daiba) that we would find a shopping mall with multiple restaurants, one of which was Gonpachi. The place is dark wood, casual, but with great water and city views. The menu extensive of yakitoris, some interesting salads, a few meat & fish and ranges from inexpensive to... More

A great variety of tasty Japanese food! If you're looking for a place where you could eat some authentic Japanese food, this is the place to go. Menu's are English friendly with many bilingual staff, so it's great place to try if you don't understand much Japanese. The price is during lunch hours on weekdays are very reasonable, but it... When we entered, we were a bit surprised that this restaurant didn't look similar to the Kill Bill scene at all.. Food was okay, although somewhat overpriced. Service was good! Beer was excellent (followed the advice of other reviewer: "surliga bay... imperiale.. beer" don't remember the name), higher in sugar and alcohol, similar to a Trappist triple or e.g. La... More

The place is good enough that we went back at least twice during our 3 weeks trip. Staff are friendly, and speak enough English to be helpful to foreigners. Food is not the best but definitely on my top choice list. Only thing I did't like was the selection of food, its not a typical izakaya or yakitori stand. The... More

Things to do Nearby

Neighborhood Profile
Odaiba / Shiodome / Shinbashi
Odaiba is an entertainment hotspot with a giant ferris wheel, concert halls, amusement arcades and lots of shopping. It also boasts Oedo-onsen-monogatari, a hotspring that recreates old Edo-era ambiance and is very popular with foreign visitors. Shiodome has ultra-modern office buildings where you can often find restaurants with a great high-rise view of Tokyo. The neighboring area of Shinbashi is a district of much older commercial buildings and it's a great place to join 'salary men' enjoying a drink and snacks at street stalls under the railway bridges after work.
