I've actually been here twice though I'm not really sure why. And I'm definitely not sure how they make it onto the Top 100 list or whatever list it is. I'd be curious to get opinions on this place from Japanese people who are more used to the type of food served. Part of the difficulty, in my opinion, is... More

We booked for the full Kaizeki menu which consisted of 8 courses served at a leisurely pace. Each course was delicious. Obviously, the focus is on fish, some raw, some cold, some hot and grilled. The seven ways with fish was amazing, including blow fish, as was the Sanui Olive Beef on stoneware. It is not surprising the restaurant is... More

If you like Japanese food, and would like to have a whole new experience of what it can be. Go to Ryugin! Don´t expect it to be you´re average Japanese fod just done better, here they are using things no one uses in the Japanese cuisine, it stretches your taste-palette, and the traditional way of doing things. No doubt you´ll... More

An absolutely disappointing experience at Ryugin (besides the service). The space is uncomfortable, the decor has no personality, the presentation below average. What were meant to be visual surprises were also average at best. Most importantly the food was completely unimpressive. To serve a pre-fix menu for over $300/pr person, go the traditional, elegant japanese kaiseki route or to the... More

For a multistarred place, my dinner was average. To understand why it has three stars, you have to understand the innovations and fusions this chef introduces on the classical Japanese base. However, the fact remains that the results were mixed. There was excellent broth in a pike eel shabu shabu. A dish with corn puree, jelly and sea-urchin was delectable.... More

The restaurant feels a bit stuffy with waiters in boring suits (including the women), and not a smile to be seen. It's not clear what atmosphere it tries to create but it leaves me cold; as a dining experience it was slightly disappointing, from the boring drinks menu to the somewhat anonymous interior. The food has touches of brilliance. I... More

We have been to Ryugin Tokyo as it was one of the restaurants advices by our hotel. The menu is fixed (you can eat a la carte only if you reserve a table the same day, but it's pretty difficult since the location can accept approx 20 people maximum). We had a good and wide Japanese cousin experience. Waiters are... More

We had dinner at Ryugin in HK for 2x. This time while we were in Tokyo, we wanted to try the original Ryugin, tucked in a little corner in Roppongi. The experience was indeed sublime. Each course was superbly executed, and exceeded expectations (bear in kind that we had high expectations already, having tried Ryugin in HK). Great food, in... More

The entrance to Ryugin was well marked and easy to find. Handsome looking entrance and austere dining room. Service was a little stiff but nothing too uncomfortable. There was 1 person in charge of English speaking tables, another for Chinese so language should not be an issue. The food was well executed, but unfortunately a little uninspired. The highlight of... Ryugin was our last supper in Japan. After our mediocre experience at Narisawa, we did not have any expectation for Ryugin. We even almost cancelled our reservation, especially after finding out that Ryugin was serving kaiseki. We’ve had four kaiseki so far during our trip, and we were getting bored of eating the same ingredients. Thanks to Ryugin’s cancellation policy... More
