When in Tokyo you MUST eat here

Walking around Tsukiji Fish Market we came across a queue of about 40 people and wondered what they were queuing for in the cold at 5:45am. They had been standing there for 2 + hours to eat sushi. We weren't going to wait that long and went to the restaurant next door Yamazaki. Very small and you... read more

On our third visit to the Tsukiji Fish Market, we decided to visit Yamazaki because of TA reviews. We arrived around 11.30pm am and had to wait around 45 mins (much shorter than the nearby favorites). Really nice touch to be served green tea while we waited. The freshly made sushi was delivered onto fresh leaves & we were entertained... More

Had the Tuna belly and Salmon. The Salmon was good but the Toro wasn't fresh and had a fishy taste that lasted in my mouth for hours. I had better Toro elsewhere and it wasn't worth it even for its price of $7 per piece. The lines outside for these few shops were massive. We couldn't wait for the other... More

We stumbled upon Yamazaki on a cold rainy morning in December after walking through the fish market. A friendly family also visiting Japan in the line ahead of us advised us to hang in through the rain and go to this restaurant because the wait was going to be well worth it. We waited for an hour, and finally were... More

Good: Best sushi I've ever had! I ordered the Kiku Set for ¥3,900 after reading another review below. Yes, it's a bit expensive, but worth every penny. I was hesitant at first as a budget diner, but it's an experience I would pay for over and over. I actually rescheduled my flight for a long layover through Haneda Airport a... More

We visited the restaurant last wk, on a sat morning. Queue was long but not as long as the 2 popular ones. We waited about 45 mins and while waiting, the staff came out and serve us hot green tea and chatted with the japanese customers (we can't speak japanese). We brought our young son along and he was able... More

I came here after seeing a huge line for sushi dai and peeking around the corner. Lo and behold no line. The small restaurant was full though so I did have a small wait. Maybe 20 minutes? Went on a Monday. Probably helped. We ordered a la carte because we wanted to try specific things. I took my first bite... More

Wow. Now I know what sushi is supposed to taste like. We only waited about 30 minutes on a Monday around lunch time. We ordered the Kiku Set for 3,900 yen (11 pieces plus egg and miso soup. The chef chooses the sushi for you, and the pieces come one at a time. Each piece is literally a work of... More

Restaurant is sandwiched between 2 popular ones which required between 2 to 4 hr wait on an early Saturday morning. We decided to try Yamakazi as the wait time was about 1/2 hr. There were 3 menus to choose from.We chose the Sakura which costs 3200 yen and had add on of abalone, scallops and snow crab.( Some items are seasonal but... More

Best late Thursday morning in recent memory. It's the kind of meal that simply makes you feel happy afterwards, even while walking along the subway and the streets of Tokyo. Decided to go there since Yamazaki is sandwiched by two sushi bar with long lines. We thought that since we are in Tsukiji, all is fair when it comes to... More
