Outside dinner in a botanical garden of fruit trees and herbs

During our visit to Lunahuana we stopped for lunch at the Refugio de Santiago in Paullo - a real surprise. Sitting under Arab tents at wooden tables in a botanical garden of fruit trees and herbs and Fernando explaining to us the diversity of plants. Food is very special - freshly prepared... read more

With a group of around 14 people we had a dinner outside. First, we started to conjure with the open fire by drinking pisco sitting in a circle and each of us making a toast. Once finished, we left the inner patio, went through the gardens uphill guided by small torches / candles on the floor and up to the... More

We arrived here both from a reference on Trip Advisor as well as the rafting company we used. I'm giving this an excellent as the food was fresh, served quickly and very delicious. We loved the menu selections and tried the different types of trout, asado, milenesa and other traditional plates. Everyone in the family was extremely content.. even the... More

What a wonderful place! Our host, Fernando, could not have been more gracious, giving us an impromptu tour of his orchard and gardens. The food was beautiful, fresh and delicious. The surroundings, while rustic, were welcoming. We only hope we can return. Greg and Gail Wiseman Indianapolis, IN, USA

I ate at Refugio De Santiago while staying overnight with a group of travellers in early May 2013. All Canadians, we were overwhelmed by the generousity or our host Fernando and the beauty of the Refugio grounds. We had lunch, dinner and next-day breakfast - all delicious and beautifully presented. The ingredients are very fresh, produce from the Refugio gardens... More

Came back to this fantastic restaurant with family visiting from the UK. I let Fernando (the owner) know that one of my guests was vegetarian, and he prepared a gorgeous Vegetarian Ceviche I've never heard of before. The rest of the dishes we had were as good. We all were so impressed. Peruvian food is very good, but what I... More

Nice place to watch the moonrise. We went to dinner at night, they put candles on the table because there was little light. Good service. Those who ate cuy (guinea pig) were satisfied. Those who ordered pork, not so much. Nice place to eat.

We went here after a long day of ziplining and white water rafting. The atmosphere was perfect and our children ages 6-10, were able to run around and play while waiting for their food. The kids had the river trout, which they loved. I had the Chupe de Camerones- it was excellent. My husband had pasta with Camarones, which was... More

Not just an excellent place to eat the hostel also provides very affordable (from S/.150 -200)per person including 3 meals, and comfortable accommodation. From the menu CUY, CEVICHE (trucha con camarones) and the TRUCHA EN REFUGIO were brilliant. Fernando and Pedro and all the staff were incredibly friendly and catered for any needs/requirments..... making our stay incredibly enjoyable and we... More

Barely a 2 hr drive south of Lima, the town of Lunahuana in the Canete valley offers an excellent 1-2 days getaway from Lima. On the way you can stop for awesome breakfast with tamales & chicharrones at Sarita (Punta Hermosa) and take a detour via Azpitia in the valley of the Mala river (sample piscos and eat delicious river...
