It's all a bit 1980s

This place is what I imagine Langan's Brasserie to have been like during its popularity in the 1980s. The rickety furniture and eclectic artworks set the scene while Julie Griffiths is a sort of Peter Langanesque character without the raging alcoholism, although the clientele are probably more... read more

Went as part of a family group birthday celebration. This out-of-the-way rural setting is a real pleasure to visit. I hadn't been for some years and not during daylight hours. A meander around the wildlife and 'sculture' garden was really enjoyable in the pleasant weather of this mid summer, Saturday lunchtime. The kids also enjoyed a bounce on the large... More

The food was first class, all four of us enjoyed every course. It was restaurant style food in a rustic pub setting. The gardens are lovely and everywhere is covered with sculptures. I would recommend walking around the area too, the countryside is beautiful.

This place is what I imagine Langan's Brasserie to have been like during its popularity in the 1980s. The rickety furniture and eclectic artworks set the scene while Julie Griffiths is a sort of Peter Langanesque character without the raging alcoholism, although the clientele are probably more today's Langan's clientele - moneyed elderly with drink problems. Drinks are expensive and... More

My family & I have visited this restaurant a number of times before (20+ times) and most of the time have come away with positive things to say - delicious food & great service in a beautiful setting. However, when we visited over the Christmas period we were kept waiting in the bar area for just short of two hours... More

I went on Sunday with 3 girl friends on arrival we were asked if we would like a pre dinner drink which was great. The only problem was there was no where to sit. It felt a bit like a a conveyor belt, as one family were shown to their table the next group got the chairs. They took our... More

I thought the food very good and worthy of the High prices- But the service was slow, and a slightly batty and not very pleasant elderly Lady seemed to Terrify the mostly pleasant young staff members and very much wanted to boss the customers as well. She didn't concern me much but I am sure the long wait for every... More

Over the years we must have eaten at the Sir Charles Napier 20-30 times, which tells a story in itself. My wife is a travel, property and food writer so we usually eat for free in the best restaurants around the world, but when we are paying our own way and want to celebrate we go here. Against the backdrop... More

We have just arrived home after Sunday lunch at the Charles Napier - very disappointing and overpriced. Also very officious front-of-house woman who could obviously do with a lesson in hospitality.

Julie Griffiths is arrogant, rude, dismissive and one of the most ill-suited owner/managers you will ever get to meet. If you do decide to take your chances and brave dining in this gastro-pub, whatever you do, DO NOT cross Julie. Do not ask for anything, do not complain about anything, do not say anything is wrong with the food or... More

Our son's wedding is being held here later this year so our visit was to experience the place at first hand. The English language is inadequate to describe just how good the place is.
