The food here is absolutely outstanding on all fronts since the new chef has arrived. It is all completely unpretentious and run by the brilliant Julie Griiffith.

Answer: By having lunch at this restaurant. 1 starter, 1 main, 1 glass of wine, 2 people, £100. No amuse, no in-between stuff etc. Just that. Now, the setting is brilliant, garden is beautiful, and the staff nice enough. Ingredients are top quality. The issue: they spoil the whole thing by deep frying stuff and including it in the plate,... More

We had a set menu that was excellent value for money. They only do this at certain times and days but I would certainly recommend it. The good was of high quality. What makes this place is the atmosphere. An cosy cottage dinning room with wonderful interesting art collection. The manager is a lovely inviting lady and the front of... More

Recommend and full value of our high taxi fare. Visited for anniversary celebration, after an enquiry/booking 3 weeks prior pleasantly welcomed with references to my early enquiry and menu immediately provided in reflection. Turned out to be a busy night with all tables covered many twice. Our pre meal drink and order taken in the expansive garden. The 7 course... More

Every course was well presented with beautiful flavours and interesting combinations, but the service was at best quite mediocre. Wine was not topped up, water not offered and when the jug was empty, it took a prompt to get a refill. Dessert wines were served but the empty glasses from the previous course remained on the table, Our table was... More

I cannot really fault this place, the setting is delightful and the gardens beautiful. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed and the food superbly cooked and delicious. The prices are on the high side but justified by such good food. The service was a little slow but to be fair we were having difficult dishes, including two courses with soufflés,... More

I have to admit it. I tried hard to find fault with this restaurant but failed. We'd been there about 10 years ago. The service was awful and the owner/manageress abrupt and most unfriendly. We wanted to try it again because the food had been very good. This time the food was equally good and, what's more, the owner/manageress was... More

Love love love The Sir Charles Napier. It is one of my favourite places to dine. Have shared many memorable moments there. It seems to have a magic that way! The food is divine, as is the wine list and the service.

Returning to The Sir Charles Napier after many years it was as good if not better than we remembered. Lovely cosy bar and drinks, interesting menu and comfortable coffee and truffles afterwards. However the main delight was the meal itself. Great soufflés, super ingredients and each dish very well done. Pleasant and competent people and easy atmosphere. Only criticism was... More

We had lunch here with a friend in early May and was disappointed with the service which was very average. The food was below expectations. The fish I ordered was very salty and when I mentioned so, the owner asked how is my salt level. Hello? First of all, we were not even asked how the food was. It was... More
