Excellent lunch in lovely surroundings

Having only visited in the evening (in the dark) we were delighted to discover the beautiful gardens when we took friends visiting from the USA for lunch. On a lovely sunny afternoon the ambience was perfect as was the food. Delicious!

My husband's a bit of a foodie suggested we try this pub/fine dining experience whilst exploring what this part of Oxfordshire has to offer. The day was lovely and the food glorious. Some delicate favours balanced with seasonal fare well executed. Having read the more recent reviews about the welcome ( we visited in March 2015) it is formal however... More

We'd been promising ourselves a visit for many months, part of our tour of the Michelin restaurants in our locale. We finally arrived, with a warm welcome in the car park from two large hounds, for what we were anticipating would be a relaxed Friday luncheon, alas... It all began well enough with a pleasant welcome and a couple of... More

At the Sir Charles Napier a big bill and small portions. Don't expect to pay less than £50 or £60 each for lunch. The food was good enough, but for me the pork loin was not cooked through leaving a rubbery texture - that was ok because there wasn't much of it! Beware of the times two trick. Ask for... More

We sat in the bar area for about 20mins before being told we could go to our table. During this time we ordered our food so we assumed when we went to the table starters would arrive quite promptly but it was anothet 20mins until they arrived. There was however some delicious bread on the table. I was quite surprised... More

We booked a table at the Sir Charles Napier for a family celebration. We had enjoyed excellent food on a previous visit although we were taken aback on that occasion by the gratuitous rudeness of the proprietor, Jule Griffiths. However, reasoning that everyone has off days, we decided to try again - this was a serious mistake. Our welcome was... More

It is some time since my last visit to the Sir Charles Napier, but it was our 25th Wedding Anniversary,. Tired of over touted celeb chefs' and awful fusion cooking in crowded restaurants with lousy service and fellow diners you would go a long way to avoid, we needed something special and very English. This time we promised ourselves a... More

A great drive up a long, winding country Lane brought us here to meet friends for lunch on a sunny Saturday. Easy plentiful parking. It's a pub/restaurant set in gardens containing a number of sculptures - worth a wander! The food was good - two loin of pork, two scallops (delicious), two rhubarb soufflé (looked amazing) and two very good... More

I visited the Sir Charles Napier with food-and-wine loving friends on a bitter cold January evening. A roaring log fire set the tone for a warm welcome from staff, delicious food and excellent wines. As an evening out, it was very hard to fault. MW from Leominster.

We went here on Easter Sunday and had a delicious meal, the restaurant was very busy which meant that we had to wait slightly longer than usual for our food but the food when it arrived more than made up for any delay. Other patrons were Heston Blumenthal and Raymond Blanc, so you cannot doubt the quality of whole experience.
