Visited this restaurant for the 1st time in about 20 years; my wife had not been for 40 years! Great welcome and a fantastic menu. If you are a soffle fan then you will be in heaven. Fantastic smoked haddock souffle starter and a greengage souffle for dessert, with "Tokaji" to follow. Not cheap but well worth it. Must save... More

Thank god for Sat Nav! This restaurant is a bit off the beaten track, but once you find it, down the single track country lanes (with very few passing points) its well worth the effort. It’s a good old English pub, fairly comfortable and well presented. But obviously the difference is the quality of the food on offer. The staff... More

What a lovely place this is, set in the stunning Chilterns located down a little lane, the setting could not be more English. The property is beautiful, surrounded by stunning gardens with lovely planting and surprising but delightful sculptures! Our Sunday lunch started well, the sun was shining and we were greeted by the owner Julie and offered drinks on... More

About an hour's drive from North London lies a small piece of English Heaven. It overlooks Chiltern beechwoods. There's a very English garden, agreeably not too kempt, dotted with curious sculptures of animals. There's a huge Irish wolfhound, perfectly friendly. There's what used to be a pub, which became a gastropub, but which is now a proper restaurant with a... More

I stopped off by chance at this beautifully located restaurant in the Chiltern Hills and, despite being very busy, I was given a warm welcome and invited into the beautiful garden witha welcome drink and the menus to study. I chose from the tempting set lunch menu and enjoyed the views. Soon after I was seated on the terrace and... More

Julie has worked hard over the years to make this a fantastic and successful business. Going for Sunday lunch last week was a pleasure as usual. Food was top quality service and atmosphere superb. The place was packed as usual. Yes it's not cheap but you get what you pay for. I have been coming here for nearly 40 years... More

This is the second time I have been to SCN recently as I am told that all proper reviewers go at least twice. My Master and Mistress have been coming here for nearly 30 years but have never reviewed it although I know it is one of their favourite places in the whole of the Country. They told me that the setting... This restaurant has a lovely 'old pub' type atmosphere - but it is smart and tasteful. The food is excellent - one of those rare places when I could eat all of the menu choices! Lovely gardens surround the restaurant.

I booked this restaurant for a 50th birthday lunch and expectations where high after reading all the rewiews regarding this restaurant. The setting and location is beautiful, however the service and food must live on past reputation. The owner took our food order which was the set menu, not because of price, but we liked what was on the menu.... More

What a wonderful Sunday afternoon, we ate outside under a vine covered arbour, fabulous lobster salad, followed by exquisite John Dory, my husband had a divine souffle to start followed by traditional roast beef and yorkshire pudding, our friends had similarly, fish for her, roast pork for him, great puds, food superb, service excellent, very efficient but friendly and attentive....
