went to lunch with group of friends and to make life easier for the restaurant we all had the tasting menu. Would say that food was a bit average and my sea bass and duck were over cooked the wine matching did not do it for me and other people on the table as the choices did not really complement... More

This establishment never fails to please. If you come in summer there is the lovely garden to enjoy. If you come in winter there are log fires in the lounge area. The food and extensive wine list are excellent. The relaxed and unrushed atmosphere is delightful. In over twenty year I have always had a great experience.

We tend to like restaurants very much on a first outing, less and less so as we become more familiar with it. Not so with the Sir Charles Napier. We still think as highly of it after ten visits as we did after our first. Our last visit was on a cold and foggy evening, and the warm fire and... More

This was the second time we have been, and although the first time was nice, the second was exceptional. The service was what was expected which was very good. The atmosphere was lovely; because the pub is so old, I don't think it is very well insulated, so the roaring fires gave heat, and made the setting perfect. The food-... More

A lovely old English pub turned into a fine dining restaurant. We went there as a family of 5 just before last Christmas and it was like a grown up's Christmas wonderland. Two roaring log fires, only one beer but my husband grinned like a kid when he tasted this ale from the barrel.....Dark and elegant with romantic low lighting... More

Our second visit did nothign to dispel the reservations (no pun intended) that we had from our previous meal. Food absolutely superb, service far less so. With Michelin concentrating on the overall package, rather than "just" the food, I'm surprised this has kept its star. Our table was booked for 20h, and we arrived around 5 mins to. With no... More

I have been eating at the Sir Charles Napier for the past 30 years. I has just got better and better. The experience in Summer is enhanced by the beautiful gardens. In winter by the coal fires and the warm, friendly relaxed interior. The food is always brilliant and the sculptures and art that decorate the place fascinating, innovative and... More

Called into this pub/restaurant for a drink on a Sunday at 1.30 ish, to check it out for future use , as we had not been to the area before. We were served drinks then told we could not sit in the general seating area (not dining area) around the very attractive fire, even though the seating area was completely... More

We have been out for a tour of local places to drink and eat this afternoon and have never been so unwelcome as we were made to feel at The Sir Charles Napier. Overpriced flat beer and the arrogance of the staff and manageress were second to none. As paying customers we were told that we were not allowed to... More

First time to this pub - delicious food (recommend the soufflé for pudding) and very friendly attentive staff. Tucked away down a country lane. Don't be put off by mixed reviews below. We will come back.
