Lovely atmosphere

Went for a late afternoon lunch, had a fantastic meal. Service was great, and the cheese soufflé starter was amazing. Main course of the cod is definitely recommended . Setting was lovely, nice fireplace and sofa to relax afterward.

I have heard good things about this restaurant and finally got around to visiting last Thursday evening. It more than lived up to its reputation for quality and at £19.95 for the two course menu, excellent value. This could become our local favourite!

Thing is, the Napier probably never really wanted that Michelin star, never really wanted to be a 'fine dining' anything. It's an absolutely fantastic pub, with a great wine list and delicious food. And all those things are completely irrelevant. Why? Because it's perfect at three things. Winter: logs fires, one ale perfectly kept and served, random sofas and chairs,... More

Visited restaurant with Family members in November 2014 , The Service and the atmosphere were very good. The food was as you would hope and expect from a Michelin star restaurant was also good but not in my opinion excellent.. However my partner who has mobility problems found that the seating was uncomfortable. and the lack of disabled parking a... More

I confess we are locals and eat fairly regularly at the Napier (once a month on average) I felt compelled to write a review to balance some of the negatives. 1) It is not in the middle of nowhere- it is 10 mins from junc. 6 on the M40 and requires only one right turn off the main rd to... More

Well, it is REALLY out in the sticks! As you wend your way down windy little country lanes you will almost certainly have a few moments of doubt, but rest assured - you won't be disappointed. The restaurant has a really nice ambience, pleasant decor; interesting sculptures; open fires. The menu is a toughie, because there are so many dishes... More

Had the specials menu which was surprisingly reasonable!!! The food was delicious. It was a bit quiet as we went for a midweek lunch. Service was good too.

The Sir Charles Napier is a lovely, old pub-resaurant in a great location, serving very nice food. The one thing that let it down was, on the day, the service didn't match what is expected of a Michelin starred establishment. It did not really detact from an enjoyable, celebratory lunch, it just could have been enhanced by a little bit... More

We took a chance and went to The Sir Charles Napier for the first time whilst taking good friends out to celebrate their Silver wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed in the slightest. The food was fantastic and the service equally good, attentive without being intrusive. We will certainly return!

Our small adult family group of five recently dined at The Charles Napier restaurant and found the experience disappointing. The food was good quality and well prepared but the portions were meagre and the menu very limited. Starters at £15 which would look lost on a side plate certainly did not represent good value. A large party occupied an adjacent... More
