Great setting for a good meal

It really is in the middle of nowhere but well worth the trek! The surrounding countryside and well loved gardens complete with sculptures create a very picturesque, tranquil setting for a wonderful meal. We chose the Irish rib of beef with triple cooked chips which was delicious. Likewise the... read more

We have just arrived home after Sunday lunch at the Charles Napier - very disappointing and overpriced. Also very officious front-of-house woman who could obviously do with a lesson in hospitality.

Julie Griffiths is arrogant, rude, dismissive and one of the most ill-suited owner/managers you will ever get to meet. If you do decide to take your chances and brave dining in this gastro-pub, whatever you do, DO NOT cross Julie. Do not ask for anything, do not complain about anything, do not say anything is wrong with the food or... More

Our son's wedding is being held here later this year so our visit was to experience the place at first hand. The English language is inadequate to describe just how good the place is.

My wife and I together with our best friend enjoyed an obsoletely fantastic lunch here en-route to the airport prior to traveling to USA. The set lunch menu at £20 per head for two courses represents great value for the quality of food that is served. AND the deserts are to die for ☺ All the staff were very professional,... More

I guess if you've been awarded a Michelin star it shouldn't be surprising that you serve good food! Still, at a recent luncheon to celebrate my birthday all 5 of us were completely blown away by the quality and taste of our meal in this somewhat hidden/off the beaten track restaurant. After driving through the depths of Oxfordshire (thank goodness... More

Family dinner, on a summer evening chilly enough to prevent us sitting out in the lovely garden. Taster menu, perfectly cooked and presented. Table could have been slightly better (not in main dining room) but not a big problem. Pork squares served with drinks the only miss. Very good service, expert management. Highly recommended.

Met friends here for Sunday lunch. We hadn't been for 20 years so were really looking forward to returning. This is a smart pub / restaurant with a mix of clientele - extended families dressed up in their Sunday best and some couples in jeans! Good stuff: easy to park, sat in sofa/bar area and had a drink before being... More

I have visited the Sir Charles Napier twice and both times were fabulous. I love the atmosphere which is laid back but sophisticated. The food is lovely, especially the desserts which are delicious, it's clear that lots of thought, care and attention goes on in the kitchen. The wine list and the sommelier are excellent and I'm always pleased when... More

Having only visited in the evening (in the dark) we were delighted to discover the beautiful gardens when we took friends visiting from the USA for lunch. On a lovely sunny afternoon the ambience was perfect as was the food. Delicious!
