Very mixed feelings

I don't like to sit on the fence but The Sir Charles Napier gave me so many mixed messages and mixed feelings I feel I have to. We went for lunch on a glorious day and drove down the pleasant and often narrow country lanes that surround the restaurant. First impressions were of a lovely country... read more

Not sure why this restaurant gets mixed reviews - I think it is fabulous. Atmosphere, service, food and drink all top notch and worthy of a recommendation. Garden looking good and try and get there in time to have a pre-dinner drink there if weather allows. Haddock soufflé followed by rib eye special and desert (caramelised something) was splendid. I've actually been going to this restaurant for about thirty years. However it was lunch there yesterday, on a perfect English spring day, that made me think it was about time I wrote a review. I think the first thing to say is that owner Julie Griffiths and her family deserve an accolade for running a consistently good restaurant for... More

Family get-together for a weekday lunch, party of 4. Everything started out well enough, friendly welcome and attentive service. Unfortunately as the place got busier (and in fairness it was quite full by the end of lunch service, which is not bad for such an off-the-beaten-track place) the service slowed down noticeably and also got a bit perfunctory. Whether the... More

We recently visited for an extended lunch. Nice location, good atmosphere, and that's where it ends. The food is pretentious and inadequate nouvelle cuisine. When each course was produced, I felt like saying, if I like it, can I have some? In the case of the lemon sole, I think they had cut the tail off and kept the rest... More

The weather was sunny on Easter Monday and we drove from London and arrived early to take a circular walk through the beautiful countryside. 1 1/2 hrs later we were ready for pre lunch drinks. I had a lovely pint of bitter. Most people were sitting outside surrounded by the lovely gardens. We had a very very good lunch. Our... More

Recently visited with colleagues for a special lunch. Lovely quirky restaurant, beautifully presented food, good service. Most of the meals tasted superb, the chicken was rather bland but otherwise all was excellent and would highly recommend!

Came for lunch here recently. I like the ambience, nice and relaxed. Service was good. Food was outstanding quality throughout. Certainly one of the better Michelin-starred restaurants I've been to overall, really can't fault it. The set menu looked a bit uninspiring so we avoided the lunch deal, but in retrospect I suspect that would be fantastic value if you... More
