Pricey with small portions.

Taken here for a birthday lunch, and was relatively satisfied. Set in a lovely spot, with great gardens and attentive service. We arrived and were handed the menus to make our choices. We had the souffle and crab to start and the sea bass and trout for mains. All were stunning, and very well... read more

A lovely spot in the Oxfordshire countryside with great views and gardens. Had a nice table outside in the sunshine. Service was attentive and friendly. Food and wine quality top notch all round. It was my wife's birthday and she loved the whole experience. Would definitely go back for special treats. Not cheap, but worth it!

We had a family gathering to celebrate our anniversary and granddaughter's 1st birthday and returned to where we had a superb time two years earlier. It did not disappoint. We started with champagne in the garden and moved inside to have our lunch. We had foie gras, scallops, cheese and fish soufflé and the vegetarian option. We followed with the... More

Loads of bronzey bits in the garden and whatever was the huge hippo doing in the middle of the table? Pleasant enough setting but the dishes took subtlety to the point of non existence and despite the flowery descriptions they were nondescript. We were a party of thirteen which clearly stretched the staff as they made errors in the orders... More

In various reviews I had read this has been referred to as a 'Gastro pub' which it certainly is not. This amazing restaurant set in fairly remote countryside is a jewel - and an expensive one at that. There are several intimate dining areas, a bar area and outside seating overlooking a beautiful garden area containing fabulous animal sculptures by... More

We had read the negative reviews about the service at the restaurant, but decided to give it a try anyway, hoping that the bad reports were (almost) isolated incidents. We have now been to this restaurant twice, both times this year, on two special occasions. The first time was amazing, the food, wine, service, environment and general atmosphere were worth... More

Just back from an amazing meal. The food and service is excellent, and sensibly priced for a michelin star restaurant.I really don't understand any of the bad reviews on trip Advisor. Would highly recommend to fellow food lovers and will definitely return. The gardens are beautiful.

When Julie Griffiths chased me out of the Sir Charles Napier hysterically screaming at me to never return after I commented that the service was 'lacking', I had vowed to write a scathing review of restaurant and its awful service and unremarkable food. But actually, many of you have already saved me the trouble. There are endless examples and reviews... More

Went as part of a family group birthday celebration. This out-of-the-way rural setting is a real pleasure to visit. I hadn't been for some years and not during daylight hours. A meander around the wildlife and 'sculture' garden was really enjoyable in the pleasant weather of this mid summer, Saturday lunchtime. The kids also enjoyed a bounce on the large... More

The food was first class, all four of us enjoyed every course. It was restaurant style food in a rustic pub setting. The gardens are lovely and everywhere is covered with sculptures. I would recommend walking around the area too, the countryside is beautiful.
