It is well worth the trip outside the city of Tokyo for a meal at this staggeringly beautiful restaurant. Small rush roofed buildings are scattered around lushly mature and immaculately manicured gardens. It's like dropping into history. This is not a place to go for a snack or if you're in a hurry; this is perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime experience. One... More

Coming here was absolutely one of the highlights on this visit to Japan. The place is more than just a fine dining restaurant. The grounds, staff, colors, smell, etc. makes it an experience for all the senses. We were a little hesitant to visit Ukai Toriyama after hiking Mt. Takao the entire morning. So when we arrived at the front... More

Let's visit at least four times for one year and choose the private room. The garden is enjoyable in every season. In spring, the fresh green, in summer, firefly,in autumn, leaves have turned red and in winter, drinking cups of sake while enjoying a snow scene. I like the sake which was in the bamboo. Let's arrive at the restaurant... More

This was like my 10th visit; but it's been awhile since the last visit (first time since I started posting restaurant reviews in tripadvisor). Still the extraordinary food, services, garden, furniture, houses, and mood. There is nothing that can even comes close to this standard in Hachioji city; and there are only few upper echelons on restaurant in Tokyo prefecture... More

Exquisite, graceful service. Delicious food. Beautiful surroundings, with traditional Japanese gardens. We went mid summer and saw fireflies in the gardens.

This restaurant was recommended by a friend who lived in Tokyo for a few years. It takes around one hour from Tokyo center to reach the restaurant but it's absolutely worth it. You are greeted by very friendly staff and escorted to the Privat little room. You have a few set menus to choose from ( average 8500Yen) and have... More

This is a restaurant that one must try once if you have the time and budget to spare, We asked our hotel concierge to book even before we arrived at the hotel. The journey to the restaurant is a bit tricky but well worth the trouble once you get there. Restaurant shuttle picked us up at the train station, upon... More

late July-2014 Have been back a few times since my last review some, 4 years ago. (The lunch time is just as recommended as well if you decided to go to Takao-san in the morning. You may find a simple change of clothes n body-clean wet tissue, very helpful during warmer months, though.) Went again, n thought it is worth... More

We were on Mount Takao, and decided to take the shuttle from the station to this restaurant. We felt underdressed, but were put into a private room in a lovely garden setting with a stream coming through. We had the grilled chicken course - the did offer an English menu. The service was great. Worth a day trip from Tokyo.
