Authentic Japanese cuisine experience!

I went to this restaurant a few days ago and just loved it! It is a beautiful Japanese restaurant in the middle of the woodlands! The concept is very interesting. I have never seen such a restaurant before. It is ideal for families, and friends who want to enjoy good food and nature as well. I... read more

If you have never been to Japan before this is an experience that you will want to have. It will not be cheap but it will be worth every penny you spend so if you plan on having one meal that is so different that you will remember forever this is where you go. one of the suburbs of Hachioji,... After a long travel and tour day, we headed here for dinner as my friend really missed this restaurant and wanted her niece to experience this special restaurant. It was a long one-hour train ride from Yokohama station to Hachioji city on the JR Yokohama line. From here, the 4 of us caught a cab and arrived at the restaurant... More

A friend who lives in Tokyo brought us to UKAI TORIYAMA in Takao for our last evening in Japan and we had a magic dinner in this wonderful traditional Japanese restaurant ( made of a cluster of traditional houses and tea rooms), out of time and set in beautiful hills on the border of Tokyo. The poetry of the location... More

We happened upon reviews and after hiking came for a late lunch. We did not have a reservation so though it was only 4pm we were not offered a private room. Note that we only wanted one full course meal and some sides but they would not do this and seemed upset that we asked. Food was fine but not... More

I have visited this restaurant many times since 2007. Not a single complaint. The food is excellent, the service outstanding, and the changes with the seasons wonderful. Do not miss the Firefly Festival the restaurant holds in May. You need to make reservations one week in advance for a wonderful evening. The kids will enjoy this enriching experience for them.

It is well worth the trip outside the city of Tokyo for a meal at this staggeringly beautiful restaurant. Small rush roofed buildings are scattered around lushly mature and immaculately manicured gardens. It's like dropping into history. This is not a place to go for a snack or if you're in a hurry; this is perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime experience. One... More

Coming here was absolutely one of the highlights on this visit to Japan. The place is more than just a fine dining restaurant. The grounds, staff, colors, smell, etc. makes it an experience for all the senses. We were a little hesitant to visit Ukai Toriyama after hiking Mt. Takao the entire morning. So when we arrived at the front... More

Let's visit at least four times for one year and choose the private room. The garden is enjoyable in every season. In spring, the fresh green, in summer, firefly,in autumn, leaves have turned red and in winter, drinking cups of sake while enjoying a snow scene. I like the sake which was in the bamboo. Let's arrive at the restaurant... More
