A great experience with a unique and different style of food. Set on the beach it's THE place to sit and enjoy the sunset while savoring the food and a glass of wine. It's small so book early, particularly if you want a table outside.

Setting is magnificent. We both had the Mussel starter which was superb. I had the lamb shoulder which was good and my wife had the Smoked Angelfish Springrolls which were delicious. We shared a Soetkoekie desert which was incredible.

We wanted to try Gaatjie tonight but were outraged that they wanted to charge us R240 for my 4 year old. We were going to order the 3 course menu at R240 per person. Since they don't have a kiddies menu we asked if we could order wedges for my son (which was on the menu for R25). We were... More

I'm always wary to order pork belly as many restaurants get it wrong and it can be overly fatty. They got it just right, there was even crispy crackling on top. I would also recommend the soet koekie desert. It has a lovely rustic feel. The chef and staff are very friendly and welcoming.

Great place. Excellent food, and friendly, down to earth and witty service. Very good quality for the price. Sat next to a somewhat loud large group - normally this would irritate me no end, but the atmosphere, food and service put me in such a good mood that my tolerance level went way up ;-). Thanks Gaatjie!

enjoyed this restaurant very much! probably the best views in Paternoster and some of the best food too! We had the seared tuna as well as the beef fillet and both were delicious. service is also of high standard.

We were on a weekday in Paternoster and after a walk along the see we were for lunch in Gaaitjie. Very good atmosphere, very good service and I eat the best "kabeljou" in my life !! I go not anymore to another restaurant when I'm in Paternoster.

I have eaten at Gaaitjie several times but it wasn't quite up to the high standards that I have encountered before. I was still very good, but not excellent this time. The oven baked bobotie I had as a starter was excellent and the hake poached in Chenin Blanc was also very good. The main disappointment was my friend's yellowtail... More

First time in the Cape and first time in Paternoster, so we could be forgiven for wondering apprehensively about this little shack at the end of a wind-buffeted beach - never mind that we couldn't pronounce its name! First tip: YOU HAVE TO BOOK. Everyone in the know knows about Gaaitjie. Second tip: Don't be put off by the rustic... More
