A real treat

Having heard a lot about this famous award winning restaurant we ate there yesterday evening, Wednesday. Despite there being a group of 10 just ahead of us the service was prompt, and the food fresh. There are lots of dishes you won't come across elsewhere, but the staff are very knowledgeable... read more

Having paid in advance for an "authentic Indian banquet" and knowing that the price overall would, for the food alone, be nearly £40/pp (over 20 of us) we had high hopes of an excellent evening. It all began with the freezing cold wait at the train station. Granted they wanted us to turn up on time for the train, and... More

We'd expected so much more. We've eaten at the sister restaurant in nearby Hexham, and had generally eaten well there. I always reckon that, in 90% of Indian restaurants, if you go for a "standard" choice eg madras/vindaloo/korma, etc, you'll get a standard - and prob disappointing - meal, ie pre-cooked chicken/beef dropped into a pre-prepared and quickly-heated sauce, stirred... We went for a family meal to this well recommended restaurant and seemed to hit a very busy night. The Curry Train was in town and whilst the food was outstanding and the service great the other groups were very noisy and rather inebriated. This just made it very noisy - we could not talk across the table and had... More

Decided to book the "Passage to India" to surprise my sister for her birthday. There were 3 couples travelling. We were met under the big clock at Central station by two of the waiters. They were very welcoming and in their cultural dress. We were given menus and escorted to the train. The train is the normal Newcastle to Carlisle... More

I visited the valley restaurant last night for the first time and thought it was great! The staff were friendly, the food was tasty and I loved the decor of the restaurant itself. I ordered a king prawn bhaji to start which was a decent size and delicious, then to follow a chicken tikka shashlick which was brought sizzling to... More

this is a special place for us and because we live a long way away only visit annually. But sadly we may give it a miss next year. The staff are lovely and maybe a little over attentive. The atmosphere is sadly lacking and the presentation and food are well below past expectations. Because of my loyalties to this restaurant... More

Went for my sisters 50th birthday. We all met at the Central Station and were greeted by two very polite and informative staff. Our journey there was smooth and they answered any questions we had with regard to the menu. We arrived to a very small lobby with a roaring fire, drinks all sorted out we were taken to our... More
