this is a good Japanese restaurant in Hanga roa. The chef/owner knows his stuff which is immediately apparent when he comes to explain the menu and take your order. The setting is nice and the food was excellent. Service was also good. Would recommend. the chef worked in Japan for many years and really knows his stuff. By easter island... More

We really enjoyed our meal at Kotaro. First, we arrived at opening time from a half-day tour with our hotel owner to see if it was possible to be served and were lucky that there were no early reservations. Kotaro asked what we liked and then explained what he could do with our choices. I had Teriyaki Chicken and my... More

Amazing little place with great character owner chef. Delicious food flavours, lovely decor and fun music. Make the effort and eat there at least once!

We were a group of six people from three different countries. In view of the fact that we were on a Pacific Island in the middle of no where, I was expecting fresh fish. Instead, the food selection consisted of fish and meat, all of which was prepared in heavy sauces. None of it was fresh, and all of it... More

We didn't think the food was fabulous- it was certainly fine, and the proprietor was very friendly, but not worth the >$100 bill we received at the end for 3 people with no drinks.

Yes, the restaurant is really expensive. The reasons are obvious, all products are imported, the only way to get quality food is by using quality products and quality products are expensive. It is also not a secret that the restaurant is expensive, my prices are published on the internet you can also view and outside the restaurant, is the decision... More

Not only is this Japanese place far and away the best restaurant on Easter Island, but I went to Japan for my honeymoon last year and this was a better and more memorable meal than any there. Starting with exceptional sashimi along with Miso soup, our group of 6 ordered 5 different dishes. All were delicious, and two that rose... More

At our hotel we were told it was not possible to make reservations, instead we should put our names down on a sheet of paper outside the restaurant. However, this turned out not to be the case and might explain why, when we dined here, there were very few customers. The owner/chef discussed our likes and dislikes and recommended a... More

Thanks to Trip Advisor for sending us here. It's certainly different from the standard local Hang Roa cuisine, but if you're there for a week it's a nice and needed change. Delicious food, very comfortable and low-key, with Japanese style tables (sitting on the floor) or regular tables. The chef asks what you like & then makes it just for... More

It is amazing what this artist of a chef has done with the limited raw materials that are available here at this very remote location. It was so good that I ate there twice during my stay. Much, much better than the low-quality sushi overloaded with cream cheese that is the norm in mainland Chile.

On our last day on Easter Island we had dinner at Kotaro. If we stayed longer, we definitely would have come back! The chef is very friendly and speaks very good English. He runs the restaurant on his own and works very hard. He explains you all about the food, asks about your preferences and then gives very good suggestions... More
