Best Restaurant on Easter Island. Period.

I ate at Kotaro near the end of my trip after trying several restaurants my hotel had recommended on the water. I was initially hesitant given the restaurant lacks a view of the ocean and is quite different from the standard island fare (being Japanese). My assumption was that good Japanese... read more

I ate at Kotaro near the end of my trip after trying several restaurants my hotel had recommended on the water. My assumption was that good Japanese food could not be executed on Easter Island. I... More

The experience of dining at Kotaro bistrot is not easy to describe. Yes it is not just about dining, it is an EXPERIENCE: the wonderful food elaborated by just one man, Francisco, the chef, who has also crafted one by one the chairs, benches you sit on, the tables the food is served up on, the kitchen furniture, the pieces... My wife and I stopped here on a rainy evening, not knowing we needed a reservation. The owner welcomed us in anyway, not wanting to send us back out the rain. He was so great in explaining his menu and describing all of the dishes based on our preferences. The owner takes a lot of pride in his dishes and... More

I am a big fan of Japanese food, and this was a very nice visit. I tried a Japanese fish curry, which was good but not great. But for the friendliness and to give other dishes a try, I would go back. Do not expect a large variety of sushi, the chef doesn't like making it!

Wonderful experience, best meal we had on Easter Island. Offers value for money and attention to detail. Absolutely worth it! Increíble nuestra experiencia, probablemente el mejor restaurant en la Isla de Pascua. Muy bien el servicio y comida exquisita. ¡Vale la pena!

Having being in the hospitality industry for 40 yrs I was intrigued by web site for this Japanese restaurant and knew I just had to go there . The owner was most welcoming and given we had booked over 4 months in advance he seemed as pleased to see us as we were to be there. His English was perfect... More

I had to see for myself why Kotaro has been so highly rated, so I went for a walk there for an early dinner. I tried my first ever Ceviche there and it was quite nice and the rice dish I had was very hearty. I got to meet the famous chef who made me feel very welcoming at his... More

this is a wonderful restaurant with delicious food. We had a couple types of Japanese food I hadn"t tried before including Fish Curry (very different than Thai or Indian curry), and we had garlic beef. Meals came with vegetables, miso, rice and a delicious appetizer of raw mackeral in rice vinegar sauce. The chef is Chilean, but lived in Japan... More

Had the pleasure of eating in this fantastic Japanese restaurant recently.. Located opposite to the airport, its around a 10 minute walk from the main street but distance really is not an issue on a small island like Easter Island.. The building does not look like much from the outside, but step inside and you will be blown away by... More
