Bar Gallo

Piazza Umberto I, Panicale, Italy
Improve this listing
Ranked #4 of 9 restaurants in Panicale
Certificate of Excellence 2014
Cuisines: Italian
Description: The original Panicale bar, frequented by a colourful mix of agricultural workers, a few local artists and most US, British and German expats who come to meet their friends and talk to the locals and wouldn’t drink anywhere else. Bar Gallo, run by Aldo and Daniela Gallo, is modern and clean inside, with a large room at the back with a view of Lake Trasimeno for when the weather turns inclement. In summer people are outside at the tables in the picturesque old square. Here you can eat simple meals for when the formal Italian dining experience is too much: focaccia with ham or cheese, salads, single pasta dishes, bruschette, panini. Or you can have a drink or an ice cream and just talk. The staff are welcoming and mostly speak English.

After a hike of 9.5 km we sat down here for lunch. What a treat! We were surrounded by American and English tourists. The waiter (owner?) recognized us to be Dutch, which is remarkable as we are confused a lot by foreigners to be German. He spoke English very well. Delicious food. Nice Crostini, salads and lasagne. However, we could... More

Aldo & Daniela welcome everyone... you feel like family here! Wonderful cappuccino & cornetto (croissant) in the mornings... delicious fresh salads (my favorite - caprese salad with buffalo mozzarella!).. full bar with beer on tap... nice selection of gelato... comfy indoor lounge area & splendid outdoor patio right on the main square! I spend hours here visiting with friends.

Panicale is small and beautiful. My wife and I walked throughout the town and loved it, but what really made the day was sitting at a table outside Bar Gallo. Excellent food, very friendly service, and the gentle buzz of life in a beautiful piazza. We will be back!

There were 6 of us that were staying nearby - there was 1 of us at the "bar" everyhour of everyday it seemed - whether for our morning coffee, the killer vegetable soup, panini with arugula - you get the picture. The locals hang out here and so can you without feeling out of place. Daniella is a doll and... More

This was the first place that we went to when we arrived in Italy. The owner and staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. It was casual and comfortable inside and seems like just a great place to chill out and have a drink and maybe a snack. We ate here and I was a bit shocked to see our food... More

Bar Gallo is a fun place! Aldo and Daniella are welcoming and smiling when you walk in and happy to see you! I spend spring and fall here every year now for 7 yrs and have a place just outside the village. It's a nice place to feel at home and have drinks, coffe, pizza with the locals and other... More

Bar gallo is in the middle of the piazza and seems to be the favoured spot for both locals and tourists. We had iced cream a couple of times and it was really great. The tables outside ad especially good for watching the comings and goings in the square

Great place for cappuccino each morning... good lunch fare... a nice glass of vino or a gelato later in the day. and this June was the goldmine... owners Daniela & Aldo received 2 beautiful rounds of super fresh mozzarella di bufala from southern Italy! I mean, SPECTACULAR! We enjoyed our caprese salads, grinning ear to ear! An amazing experience! Wonderful... More
