Our restaurant is a favorite for locals and travelers alike. We have great breakfasts, which include Huevos Rancheros, and homemade Corned Beef Hash with corned beef made from scratch by the owner and chef, Monika. Because of Monika's German heritage, she also makes delicious schintzels also, from a family recipe. And if you save room for dessert, Apple Strudel is usually always available. There is inside seating and also patio seating overlooking the rest of the property, with views of Monika's private lake, her residence, and the Lucky Bug Bed and Breakfast. Plenty of birds to see, and has been called a birder's paradise.

We visited the Lucky Bug for breakfast with a group of about 15 people from the area. It was our first time eating there and we were very happy with the food quality and the price of our meal. The service was good and the location is very nice and looks on their large pond. We will be going back... More

Thanks so much for your nice review and we are glad your group had such a good experience. I believe that is the first time we ever made a "tea latte", so it worked and everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. We hope you come back and see us in the future. Pura Vida. More

We went to Caballo Negro for breakfast. I ordered the Corned Beef Hash and egg. It was out of this world. Monika makes her own corned beef. It was the best I have ever had.My mother is coming in December and we will be taking her there again. A young boy ordered the French toast and we made a note... More

Hola, Thanks so much for your nice review. Rob loves my corned beef also. If you come for lunch, you can also try the Reuben sandwich. It comes with my potatoes. It is the same conrned beef that I make from scratch. Looking forward to seeing you when you come back. Pura Vida, More

The restaurant is contained within the Lucky Bug boutique gift shop, which is also worth a visit. Breakfast and lunch are routinely served. Special dinners (e.g. St. Patricks Day) are held throughout the year and are always excellent. Monica's corned beef is homemade and delicious. We always enjoy the special event dinners and have had fine meals at other times... More

We made the mistake of stopping at the " tourist trap" down the road and could not believe my ears when they said they didn't have any sauerkraut, we later learned that this is accommodation experience. So,glad that we found this gem of a restaurant. We enjoyed breakfasts and lunch and them schnitzel and sauerkraut were divine! If you are... More

Thanks so much for your review. We actually got a good laugh out of the last part, and now it is me and my "sidekick." Yes, I always have sauerkraut, and corned beef, so breakfast and lunches are always covered. We enjoyed having you here, and also helping with St. Patrick's Day. So...now I have a "sidekick." Hope the rest... More

We joined our Costa Rica friends at Caballo Negro for the annual St. Patty's Day feast and had a wonderful time. The food and company were outstanding - once again Monika and Rob did a great job of hosting.

Thanks for your nice review. Even though the dinner was a lot of work, we enjoyed it. Great party atmosphere, and I know most of my Celtic music was Van Morrison, some was traditional. Looking forward to St. Patty's Day part III. Pura Vida More

Had a great traditional St. Patrick's Day dinner at Caballo Negro (LuckyBug) on March 16, 2015. Monika and Rob are wonderful hosts who go the extra mile to make guests feel pampered. This was just one of many pleasant meals with friends at this location. The setting is lovely and despite the proximity to the road, peaceful. Don't miss it... More

Thanks so much for your nice review. We love having these dinners. Yes, it is a lot of work, but it is very satisfying seeing everyone have such a good time. It ends up being a party atmosphere, as opposed to just another St. Patrick's Day dinner. We will probably have more special dinners in the future. Pura Vida. More

Found this listing in one of our guide books and was very impressed with the food and the friendliness of our hosts. Thanks for the nice review. Although your review says German to Tico, we really don't have tico food. There are some very good restaurants in the area that already do a fantastic job of that. But we have been complimented many times on our Schnitzels and our Reuben sandwich. Hopefully, you will be able to come back and see us... More

I have been traveling to Arenal for over 12 years and continue to find Restaurante Caballo Negro the best restaurant for overall food, service and view.
