Lovely back deck overlooks small pond/lake. Good food, eclectic menu from German to tico. Excellent coffee. Yes!! Restrooms and restaurant exceptionally clean. You will be happy you stopped.

Thanks for the nice review. Although your review says German to Tico, we really don't have tico food. There are some very good restaurants in the area that already do a fantastic job of that. But we have been complimented many times on our Schnitzels and our Reuben sandwich. Hopefully, you will be able to come back and see us... More

I have been traveling to Arenal for over 12 years and continue to find Restaurante Caballo Negro the best restaurant for overall food, service and view. I love sitting outside and watching a mixture of tropical birds eat at the fruit tray and a wonderful amount of hummingbirds fighting over the feeders throughout the area around the restaurant. It is... More

Thanks so much for your nice review. Most people review the bed and breakfast, so it is refreshing to hear how we are doing with the restaurant also. We are continually trying to improve what we do here, and are changing our menu to make it better. We hope you come back and sample our new menu. Most of the... More

I love to visit Caballo Negro! The food is fantastic- especially loving me some macadamia nut pancakes in the morning. Rob and Monika are wonderful hosts that make one feel right at home. Their B&B, Lucky Bug, is right there as well. The view from the tables is phenomenal with chances to see lots of flora and fauna around the... More

We enjoyed authentic Schnitzel with beautiful German music! Convenient roadside location and fairy like setting when the gallery lights are on at night. Very good food, generous portions and very fair prices. Friendly hosts and cozy atmosphere on a rainy night!

Thanks so much for your review. I am considering doing another German Dinner, but with other German Food. The German cuisine has alot of different things, so since everyone raved about this dinner with Schnitzel, then I might prepare some other things that everyone might like. Not ignoring another Mexican Food night either. That seemed to be popular as well.... More

We loved Caballo Negro. Monika and Rob are fun, friendly hosts. They made us feel welcome the moment we arrived! The food was a treat. We ate breakfast there and loved the pancakes and corned beef hash. The hash is made from Monika's homemade corned beef.

Thank you so much for your review. Wish you guys were here this weekend. I am making a German dinner with two different Schnitzels, Spaetzle, Red Cabbage salad, sauerkraut, and Monika's Black Forest Cake for dessert. Thanks again and hope to see you again in the future. Pura Vida, Monika More

The owner of our villa recommended Caballo Negro for breakfast and so glad that he did. We enjoyed it so much that we went back again the next morning. Monika's aged corn beef hash is a must try as are the macadamia nut pancakes. Also enjoyed the warm hospitality.

Thanks for your review. We get alot of referrals from other property owners. The corned beef used for the hash also makes a great Reuben. And the macadamia nuts are from here in Nuevo Arenal. Hope you come back and see us. Pura Vida, Monika More

The breakfast we had hear was incredible. I think the french toast is the best I've ever tasted. I don't know what the secret ingredient is, but I sure would like to know! In addition, the owner, Monica, and her daughter were very informative and helpful when it came to planning some excursions during our week in Costa Rica.

We have now been to two of Monica's "theme" dinners: Easter Dinner and Cinco de Mayo. This is the restaurant for the Lucky Bug Bed and Breakfast in Nuevo Arenal. If you happen to be in town when they are having a special dinner in the evening, make sure that you attend. So far it has been three for three. St. Patrick's Day, corned beef and all the trimmings, Easter, ham with scalloped potatoes, black forest cake and more, and just recently Cinco de Mayo, what a wonderful feast. Each... More

The recent special dinner nights are a recent addition to the Caballo Negro Restaurante. We used to be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. That made for a very long day, but seven days per week. We visited Restaurante Caballo Negro last night for a special Mexican themed dinner. Delicious! Service and ambiance were great as well. We've also had a regular menu item dinner as well as one of their special weekend breakfasts. Each time our meal and the service were terrific! We especially enjoy eating out on the balcony overlooking their private pond.

Thanks so much for the nice review. We are hoping to do more in the future, but we are very selective in the choices for those events. When successful, we would like to make these events annual ones.
