We made the mistake of stopping at the " tourist trap" down the road and could not believe my ears when they said they didn't have any sauerkraut, we later learned that this is accommodation experience. So,glad that we found this gem of a restaurant. We enjoyed breakfasts and lunch and them schnitzel and sauerkraut were divine! If you are... More

Thanks so much for your review. We actually got a good laugh out of the last part, and now it is me and my "sidekick." Yes, I always have sauerkraut, and corned beef, so breakfast and lunches are always covered. We enjoyed having you here, and also helping with St. Patrick's Day. So...now I have a "sidekick." Hope the rest... More

We joined our Costa Rica friends at Caballo Negro for the annual St. Patty's Day feast and had a wonderful time. The food and company were outstanding - once again Monika and Rob did a great job of hosting.

Thanks for your nice review. Even though the dinner was a lot of work, we enjoyed it. Great party atmosphere, and I know most of my Celtic music was Van Morrison, some was traditional. Looking forward to St. Patty's Day part III. Pura Vida More

Had a great traditional St. Patrick's Day dinner at Caballo Negro (LuckyBug) on March 16, 2015. Monika and Rob are wonderful hosts who go the extra mile to make guests feel pampered. This was just one of many pleasant meals with friends at this location. The setting is lovely and despite the proximity to the road, peaceful. Don't miss it... More

Thanks so much for your nice review. We love having these dinners. Yes, it is a lot of work, but it is very satisfying seeing everyone have such a good time. It ends up being a party atmosphere, as opposed to just another St. Patrick's Day dinner. We will probably have more special dinners in the future. Pura Vida. More

Found this listing in one of our guide books and was very impressed with the food and the friendliness of our hosts. We had more food than we could possibly eat but that didn't stop me from having dessert ( the strudel was fantastic ). The facilities and the restrooms were extremely clean. This actually felt more like a visit... More

Lovely back deck overlooks small pond/lake. Good food, eclectic menu from German to tico. Excellent coffee. Yes!! Restrooms and restaurant exceptionally clean. You will be happy you stopped.

Thanks for the nice review. Although your review says German to Tico, we really don't have tico food. There are some very good restaurants in the area that already do a fantastic job of that. But we have been complimented many times on our Schnitzels and our Reuben sandwich. Hopefully, you will be able to come back and see us... More

I have been traveling to Arenal for over 12 years and continue to find Restaurante Caballo Negro the best restaurant for overall food, service and view. I love sitting outside and watching a mixture of tropical birds eat at the fruit tray and a wonderful amount of hummingbirds fighting over the feeders throughout the area around the restaurant. It is... More

Thanks so much for your nice review. Most people review the bed and breakfast, so it is refreshing to hear how we are doing with the restaurant also. I love to visit Caballo Negro! The food is fantastic- especially loving me some macadamia nut pancakes in the morning. Rob and Monika are wonderful hosts that make one feel right at home. We enjoyed authentic Schnitzel with beautiful German music! Convenient roadside location and fairy like setting when the gallery lights are on at night. Very good food, generous portions and very fair prices. Friendly hosts and cozy atmosphere on a rainy night!

Thanks so much for your review. I am considering doing another German Dinner, but with other German Food. The German cuisine has alot of different things, so since everyone raved about this dinner with Schnitzel, then I might prepare some other things that everyone might like. Not ignoring another Mexican Food night either. That seemed to be popular as well.... More

We loved Caballo Negro. Monika and Rob are fun, friendly hosts. They made us feel welcome the moment we arrived! The food was a treat. We ate breakfast there and loved the pancakes and corned beef hash. The hash is made from Monika's homemade corned beef.
