We came here on the Zaachila market day (Thursday) on our way into town, because we wanted to try the "gigantic" tlyudas they are "famous" for. Now we can say with confidence this is a tourist trap. 200 pesos for what is basically an average tlyuda is absurd! You could get 4 tlyudas in the market for this price. In... More

We loved this place so much we had to go back! You enter into the area to a huge palapa where there are tons of tables and a huge kitchen in the back. La Capilla serves traditional mexican/oaxacan dishes fresh-fresh-fresh! You will probably spend a couple of hours there because so much to see. Leasurely walk thru the private palapas... More

It's a big huge restaurant with wood benches and community tables. This is a ranch and farm area so the food focuses on meats, chicken, etc.

Excellent Mexican cuisine with spectacular service. We had a local friend take us here for brunch on a Saturday morning. He has dined here for many years and suggested it as the one "must do" dining experience for Oaxaca. We had three different egg dishes and hot chocolates (you can get them made with leche or agua), Jamaica juice, pastries... More

My wife had the borrego barbeque and raved. I had plain pollo and was happy. The mezcal was fine. The location good. And the swept dirt floors perfect. animal lovers, beware--there is a private zoo and you may want to pop the cages open And a tour bus (the Yale Learning Experience or some such) showed up, ate fast, and... The ambiance, outdoors on wooden benches was a plus. It's geared to nationals and tourists alike, but for me still a bit too contrived. I would nevertheless return when circumstances dictate.

I do not agree that this is such a great restaurant! Any Mexican restaurant that serves guacamole made in a blender and is served on small plate does not get my vote.. But what i found most disturbing about this operation were the five or six parrots adjacent to the large outdoor dinning area kept in horrible cages, with metal... More

This is a fun place to visit when in Oaxaca. This huge outdoor restaurant offers up amazing, simple and traditional Oaxacan food. Probably the best mole negro I ever had. Worth trying the giant plater packed with local delicacies.

It was the best recommendation we had in this trip. Huge restaurant, where you find looooong tables, where you sit down and share the table with other people/family. The food is very very good. They brought the "tlayuda Capilla" a huge tortilla with Caldillo rojo and tasajo! Delicious..... When we entered the restaurant I noticed a lot of hammocks.....and I... More

Good oaxacan food. The place is great family oriented huge restaurant but has small palapas that make it very comfortable.
