Small gem with a very accommodating host

We read about this restaurant on trip advisor while in Niseko and while going for a walk early afternoon, we dropped in to see if there were any spots for dinner. James, the host/owner informed us they were full for all of the days we were there for BUT, accommodating as he was, he told us of an... read more

For that one night to splurge and celebrate, Ezo fit our requirement. Hokkaido is famous for its seafood and nothing exhibits this claim better than Ezo. With fresh seafood at your pick, you can negotiate the recipe base with the chef. We chose the Atlantic crab as our starter and soup base. As for main we had sake/ginger sauce with... More

Great seafood was a highlight of the trip. The seafood was super fresh you basically pick it from seafood display on ice and talk to the chef what is the best way to prepare the food. Coming from Australia I have seen some great seafood but the scallops where the largest I have ever seen and the preparation was amazing... More

Feels and smells like you're sitting by the ocean. Super fresh seafood, Hokkaidos finest catch. During dinner a scallop spit water from its tank and almost hit the waitress. Various crabs and shellfish are kept alive in holding tanks right across from the tables. Also an open cooler holding beautiful filets of fish, and during our visit they even had... More

Simply sublime. That's the only way to describe the food, the service and the atmosphere. There's a lovely feel of being privately owned and run, with the staff clearly being both knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. We asked for a selection of food between us and got a truly exceptional meal on both occasions we visited. My favourites... More

James, who travels to the fish market daily at 4 am, knows his fish and works well his patrons. Seafood is impeccable. The space is small and more like a cafe than restaurant. Very hard to secure a reservation. Book way or order for takeout. Post-Onsen (at 5/30 before crowds descend), it is fun to sit at Ezo with a... More

Yet again James and Keiko have delivered! Pick your so fresh (could swim to your plate) seafood and discuss with James how it is cooked. We still love the fish done with ginger, shallot, soy and steamed. You wont eat crumbed or battered fish again. Have a few beers or choose from the well stocked wine fridges. You have to... More

The seafood are very fresh. All that is good. For cooked dishes, I would recommend the seafood paella with inky rice. Only problem is with the service. While it's not bad, it's very uncharacteristic to ask for tip (albeit not verbally). In Japan, either you add the service charge to the bill, or just be proud that service is part... More
