Good Lunch Spot

We had been to a wine tasting in Rully and wanted a good lunch before continuing on our journey to Maçon. Our hosts at the wine tasting 'phoned Le Vendangerot to book a table for us and to explain that I eat fish but not meat. We chose two of the fixed price menus, one at €30 and one at... read more

Le Vendangerot is both a hotel and restaurant, and it is located on a quintessentially French square. It's not really la France profonde - there are major traffic arteries a mile or two away - but it feels as though you have reached the heart of France. The restaurant allows dining inside and outside (depending on weather); the menus are... More

We walked from a neighbouring village over the hill to sit on the terrace for lunch. We were a party of 6 and all but one of us had the menu du jour which had steak tartare as a main course. This was so tasty and really traditional French fare at its best. We had a fair selection of wines... More

Being part of the Logis de France, this restaurant naturally honours local ingredients and cuisine. It is thus a very good I trop Burgundy. The menu offers a lot of diversity and the food is well presented and flavoursome. Good selection of wine too. Weather permit, the terrasse overlooking a shady market square certainly add to the overall experience.

We had a lovely aperitif on the terrace before having dinner inside. The decor is charming and very comfortable. We had great service and the food was served in a timely manner. They were happy to let us wait until the cheese course too, which was an excellent selection of cheeses with a great explanation of each type. The food... More

Been coming here for 20+ years the food has always been superb even when the new owners took over standards were maintained on the food side if not improved. The hotel has always been immaculate but typically French slightly dated. But this stay will probably be our last. The food was still good but the service was awful. We arrived... More

Four of us arrived with no reservation, in the hope of receiving a mid-week lunch, and we weren't disappointed. Of the eight restaurants in which we ate during our week in Burgundy, this was one of the best two. We were seated immediately; the staff were friendly and knew their jobs, the food was amazing and not too expensive, the... More

If there is one restaurant to go to in this beautiful wine district, this is it. Located in a small hotel on a town square, it has, in the summer, both indoor and outside seating. We chose to sit inside. My wife, grandson and I had a dream of a dinner. Everything we ordered was fantastic from entrées to desserts.... More

In the old days madame ruled Le Vendangerot with a rod of iron. It was high class rustic Burgundian fayre but quite old fashioned. Now the food and decor are even better but the staff need to up their game. Some serious stag training would help because this restaurant deserves to succeed.

While staying with friends in this quiet but charming medi-evil village in the heart of the Challonaise region of Burgundy we dined out at the small 2- star hotel opposite the village square. Food and setting excellent and the service low key but always warm friendly and accommodating (contrary to what I have read in some of its reviews). The... More
