An amazing old monastic building which has survived over the years in a wonderful village location. Well kept cellar (Wadworth's beer from the brewery at Devizes) great ambiance and more that adequate pub food enjoyed in the large garden overlooking fields with the village church in the background. Altogether a great country pub experience which I intend to repeat as... More

If you are looking for somewhere with character to stay then you will do no better than The George!! Recently enjoyed a two night stay and to say we were impressed is an understatement. Properly "Olde Worlde" with features and history going back 700 years. Particularly enjoyed the excellent food and to see the chef picking herbs from outside was... More

Stayed in the village and visited this pub with a group of friends on the last night of my hen weekend with close family and friends. Booked, pre ordered AND prepaid meals about 6 weeks in advance. Wanted a table for 12 of us for 8.30pm ish to be able to enjoy a few drinks at the George beforehand. We... More

We had the dinner in the pub area, since the restorant was fully booked the restorant area looks great there is a beautiful vew of the country side, with outside eating facilities, it has a good historic feeling possibly one of the Oldest pub in England, with some interesting history, we would definatly go back there and book beforehand

I lived in Norton St. Phillip 30 years ago and when I went back this weekend I was delighted that the village is almost the same, as is The George. I was welcomed into the pub with my labrador and chose to eat in the garden although I was told I was welcome to stay in the bar. I ordered... More

I didn't come across the George in the best of circumstances, running about three hours behind on a road trip, and I'd come off the motorways and onto the back roads because the weather and traffic on the M4 were so bad. I'd hoped to be home in time for dinner, then resigned myself to a motorway service station, then... More

We were staying nearby and wanted to take advantage of the stunning evening. We ate in the garden which has a glorious view. The food was of a high standard, delicious and served quickly and in varied positions! We followed the evening sunshine!
