Local restaurant re-energized

The George has had its ups and downs over this year but it's definitely on an up at the moment. Visited here in the 11th for our team outing. This place is not only great in its sheer historical presence but the food was pretty damn good too. The staff were attentive and patient and welcoming. Would I go again? Absolutely!

The quality of food is exceptional in this charming 700 year old Inn. We found the comfort of the bar area around a real log fire so cozy and welcoming. Staff were friendly and very accommodating. Totally recommend.

I wrote a poor report last year because it was justified and this year things changed and I was blown away by the dish I had yesterday on Boxing day. I chose liver and bacon as the gluten free option which I wouldnt normally go for as it can be overcooked or tough but this was utterly divine! The sauce... More

What a historic and amazing place the George is. Dating back to the 14th Century we expected it to be wonky and quirky and it really did live up to expectations. We went there on an evening for a drink and the huge log fires were all burning and keeping the place warm and atmospheric. The rooms are kept with... More

Booked a table for lunch and were delighted to find our reserved table was by the open log fire. Starting with a pint of Wadworth 6x, an excellent ale, and the day's paper was the perfect way to relax into lunch. The food itself was very good. I had the duck which was delicious and we followed our main course... More

We went into the fantastic little bar, sat in front of the log fire and had a beer on our way back to Bath, from Stonehenge. I'll definelty revisit if I'm back in the area.

We booked to stay at the George Inn last Sunday night and at the same time booked a table for a late lunch. As others have said, it is a bit of a strange layout to actually find the bar/reception but once in, the first thing that hits you is the olde worlde charm of the place. Also a bit... More

This is an ideal venue for a 'traditional', midweek early Christmas meal. Our party of 12 had the firelit, decorated dining room to ourselves. The ambience and surroundings are really special and the food fresh cooked and wholesome. The menu not only accommodates children but also adults with small appetites. It is best to book for midday so as not... More

The George is a 700 year old coaching inn and is a very interesting building. As we arrived we passed some welcoming log fires as we were taken from the bar to the restaurant. Sadly the fires stopped when we reached the large barn-like building at the back which had no fire and even with radiators was a bit on... More
