Beautifull old Building and gardens, unfortunatly the food and sevice let them down badley,we ordered the pie of the day which was supposed to be Lamb and mint,it arrived looking lovely but when you broke into the pastry crust there was very little inside the meat was three very small thin slices about half an inch in size, I did... A group of 7 of us (6 adults and 1 child) decided to go to the George for a meal (some of us are local whereas some are from the Midlands so thought we would show them the sights). We rang before hand at about 7.20pm to check what time they served food, I was told they served food until... More

We stayed next door at the Plaine and after a long day's drive, it was pleasant to sit and have a pint at the famous pub. Next we went into the restaurant and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The view out the back is lovely English countryside.

Building is absolutely beautiful and the staff were very friendly but unfortunately the food was well over priced for what it was. It wasn't the worst I have had but was definately average. We paid around £70 for 2 of us for 3 courses and I feel for the quality of food that £40 would have been more representative. The... More

The location, inn and dining room definitely overshadowed the meal. The setting is delightful - an historic inn on the edge of a cricket square in a beautiful village. The menu was extensive at first glance, but it was only when we started ordering the we were told how many things were unavailable. Even when our orders were accepted, we... More

An amazing old monastic building which has survived over the years in a wonderful village location. Well kept cellar (Wadworth's beer from the brewery at Devizes) great ambiance and more that adequate pub food enjoyed in the large garden overlooking fields with the village church in the background. Altogether a great country pub experience which I intend to repeat as... More

If you are looking for somewhere with character to stay then you will do no better than The George!! Recently enjoyed a two night stay and to say we were impressed is an understatement. Properly "Olde Worlde" with features and history going back 700 years. Particularly enjoyed the excellent food and to see the chef picking herbs from outside was... More
