Best Meal Experience on our Trip

We are so happy that The George Inn was recommended to us by our B&B owners (The Old Parsonage House, Beckington), because it ended up being the best meal experience that we had on our 10-day driving tour of England and Wales. The George in Norton St Philip has come under new management with a new chef in the past 8 months. They have improved the running of the whole place. This very much included the food (new chef) to the point that the locals regularly come for an evening meal. The beds are very comfortable & the variety in cooked options... More

My mission was to meet up with a friend for an hour to catch up. Half way point for us was The George, which is a beautiful building and has to be said, has retained much of its characteristic charm. However; as soon as I walked into the bar, I felt a frosty chill in the air from the blonde... More

Ancient is an over-worked word in connection with English pubs, but is entirely appropriate when referring to this building, which was already old when the Duke of Monmouth passed this way in 1685. We have driven past it fairly frequently, had a pub lunch here on a couple of occasions, and decided that the time had come to spend the... More

If you are a visitor to Britain, especially if you're American, visiting Bath, say, you just have to visit the George at Norton St Philip. This pub has been there since before Columbus crossed the ocean blue! The architecture and building methods are fascinating, as is the 600+ years of history. And they do good food (not cheap, but the... More

Spent a weekend close by and ate here two nights running. Very friendly staff, great food and steeped in history. Good value, wholesome food, we had the burgers on one night and the fish pie and duck on the second both excellent. The pub itself is a real treat, you can imagine it in days gone by, nice real fire... More

For the second time recently I have been here and had a bad experience. This time we went for Sunday lunch and ate in the room by the door as I had my dog. It was clearly understaffed. I had the pear and blue cheese starter in which there was less than a teaspoon of cheese and what was there... More

I have to rate The George high on my list because we just don't have anything like this in the US and it was fantastic. A 700 year old building so full of atmosphere I could barely contain myself. My friend and I had a wonderful evening, sitting by the huge crackling fireplace. We had good cider, beer and one... More

Wonderful choice, something a bit different. Great service, attentive without pushy, and very welcoming. Food was, so tasty, good sized portions, beautifully presented. Not what we expected, throughly enjoyed and a special end to the evening.

Great food, roaring log fire, friendly staff and even has a book of the History of these buildings that are over 600 years old. Excellent selection of beers and always drop by when we visit the area. Their Dungeon bar is a great place to have a drink and the toilets are spotless being accessed through the courtyard and heavy... More
