Historic Inn in lovely village

The George is a wonderful place, really historic inn with great character, nice for a drink by the open fire in both bar and side room. The restaurant is very nicely done too. However our Sunday lunch was a bit hit-and-miss and we didn't think it was very good value for money. The plus: the... read more

Walked here for dinner on our first night in England. Service was great, food was delicious. My friend had fish and chips, while I enjoyed a beef burger. Portions were more than adequate. We sat in a room off the main bar, in the pub area, not the dining room. There was a nice warm fire which was greatly appreciated... More

The food was excellent served in a historic building with far reaching views at a reasonable price. Cynthia and Brian

This pub is worth visiting just for the architecture. We had quite nice food although it was nothing to write home about. The wine was good and the service very pleasant.

This pub is full of historical character (medieval in parts) with an outdoor seating area that overlooks the village church and cricket pitch. It is quintessentially English and serves a range of good beers, wines and food. We sometimes stop here on our way back from Bristol airport and previously the service has been a bit variable. Not this time... More

We arrived on a wet, wet, very wet day, so the only downside was we got wet going to the toilets in the open yard. The Hotel/Restaurant is living history, HQ for the Monmouth (The Duke of) Rebellion, followed too rapidly by Judge Jeffries (the hanging judge) assizes for those who lost. If you love beams and stone walls with... More

I try not to write negative reviews, but you should be warned. Maybe they were having an off night, but the service we received was amongst the worst I've even encountered. It could be a lack of staff training or just a general lack of interest, but there were so many errors it's untrue. Things such as wine glasses and... More

Me, my partner and my daughter had an evening meal at the George Inn. Good varied menu there. We both had the pie of the day which was a good portion and very tasty. Would recommend it.

This place is worth going to just for the building. There is also a lovely garden terrace outside with a fantastic view. The food was pretty good - I had lambs liver which was cooked just right. I have knocked one point off though, because my partner had frozen chips with his burger, which is totally unacceptable for restaurant food!
