Description: Whether you're here for a lunchtime special or an evening drink with friends, visiting us is always a great experience. Drop by to relax and sample our diverse range of drinks, promotions and events: they all help to make The Shepherd and Dog different. And, of course, our friendly service comes at no extra charge. All the team at The Shepherd and Dog look forward to seeing you! The Shepherd and Dog is a family run pub in the village of Crays Hill, between the towns of Billericay and Wickford, Essex. We pride ourselves on our friendly atmosphere, welcoming staff, quality of food and fine range of Beers, Cask Ales, fine wines and spirits. Our mission is to offer a value for money experience and a warm venue for families to enjoy themselves every time they visit. Our beer garden and patio is the perfect place to relax and unwind in the summer months, and our kids play area means that all the family can enjoy themselves outside. We also provide free wi-fi for all of our customers, so they are more than welcome to browse the internet over a cup of coffee or a light snack in the afternoons or early evenings. We now also have a book lending service, where you can borrow a book to read. There is no charge for this service, all we ask is that you swap any book that you might like to read for one that you've already read, giving someone the chance to enjoy it too. We are always happy to help so if there is anything any of our staff can do to make your visit a more pleasant experience then please do not hesitate to ask and we will always do our best to accommodate our valued customers.

We went to the shepherd & dog on Saturday afternoon about 2.30. It was quite quiet so we ordered our food and went to choose a table. I noticed some pieces of cucumber in the middle of the floor further on in the eating area - during our visit two members of staff walked past them on a few occasions... More

Very cramped ,right on top of next table. Looks lovely from the outside, better than it does from within. Worth a visit to see all the Essex caricature's that visit. Food average

Went for lunch on a Saturday. Our drinks were completely flat. The food was nice but the plates were cold so the food did not stay hot for long. One dish was served incomplete, a side order of chips was not served and the waiter was nowhere to be seen. We had to go to the bar to find out... More

We used to visit the Shepherd and Dog years ago and always found it very difficult to get a seat and difficult to get served at the carvery. Last Sunday, we were very fortunate be shown straight to a table and there was a very small queue for the carvery section. Three roast meats, a very good selection of vegetables... More

We went here to a 80's night which included a meal of choice. When we arrived more meals had been had to the menu. Easy to reserve for the whole evening. When speaking to the owner saying we really enjoyed our meal but we kept looking at everyone else's meal as they came and everyone else looking just yummy as... More
