Most popular Eel specialist restaurant in the area

While eel cuisine was well-known in Miyajima, Ueno was an old restaurant founded in 1901. The broth made from eel bones were used in cooking rice. We queued up for a long time before getting seated. Opening hours 10:00 - 18:30 , not open for dinner Only sells bento on Wed.

This place was highly recommended and well known by locals. It's near the ferry boat harbor that takes visitors to Miyajima. We had a half hour wait but it was well worth it. A bottle of sake went well with anago (Conger eel) bento. If you don't want to wait for a seat, there's a takeout window as well.
