Our recent stay in Ojochal was greatly enhanced by dining at Ylang Ylang, the only Indonesian restaurant in all of Central America. Hans was especially helpful describing a meal he and his wife Catherine would prepare (with advanced notice) for our vegetarian son and daughter-in-law. From start to finish, each dish was distinctive and delicious, infused with a variety of... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner due to the fusion of various spices that completed the fish and chicken dishes that we ordered. The owner, Hans, explained that they use up to 18 different spices in some of their entrees. Exceptional food and pleasant atmosphere

Hi Gary Thank you for putting us on top of Ojochal saying "very nice setting, wonderful service and food", but ... you gave us a rating of 3 (average) out of 5. We do not understand because you did not mention what we could approve or did wrong...just raving our food and restaurant....doubting if it was worth it????? I invite... More

Thank you so much, Hans and Catherine, for the excellent meal and conversation last week. We very much enjoyed your company during our stay in Ojochal. The food was decadent and a highlight of our visit. We can't wait to return. If one is looking for a fabulous meal with personality and flavor, look no further than Ylang Ylang! Cheers!

We ate here after going to exotica because we were still hungry! lol (and wanted to have a drink but didn't want to give any more $$ to exotica as they were very slow, arrogant, and rude. YY was a nice change. Friendly people, good value.

What a great restaurant this is!! A family owned pearl in Ojochal. We were a group of 7 people and we all enjoyed every single plate we ordered. Hans and Caroline are excellent hosts and they love what they do. They will explain everything to you and also how they prepare the food. (Without revealing the secret of course :))... More

Thank you very much for being our guests. We also enjoyed your presence especially when a young enthousiastic group of Tico's and Tica's have so much interest in the way Indonesian food is prepared. We will see each other again certainly when Ylang Ylang goes on tour in Escazu, Santa Ana and San Jose with our new concept: The PoPup... More

The flavors will explode in your mouth as your taste buds try to determine what variety of spices, herbs, and sauces were used. Everything served... More

When my boyfriend Chris and I arrived at this restaurant on a recommendation from someone in Ojochal, we had no idea how unique and special this restaurant would be! The subtle and delicate flavours, along with strong aromatic sauces were all a delight to the palate. The concept of the paired dishes is great, the flavours all complement each other,... More

I have eaten at Yiang Yiang many times and their preparation and portions consistently delights us. It also leave us with a desire to learn from Hans and Caroline's food preparation, we heard they have from time to time given Indonesian cooking classes.

After travelling for days through Costa Rica and eating just to get a meal, it was a pleasure and relief to enjoy the fine slow-cooking here. I know Indonesian food and this was very good. The service was personal and friendly.
