This pub is in an old attractive Victorian house set at a cross roads in the expansive village of Formby. It sits on the site of a local market where in 1799, a local man sold his wife for 15/- and a bowl of punch!

The pub is divided into four rooms with comfy sofas and chairs and attractive fireplaces and pictures of old Formby can be found on the walls. An Old English Inn in the heart of Formby village. We served traditional English fare along with our daily changing chef's specials. Try one of our 10 cask ales, there are some Greene King favourites along with local guest ales from a variety of breweries. There's an extensive gin collection on our bar, the staff will be happy to recommend which is perfect for you! Throughout the summer months come and relax in our 2 beer gardens whether you want to dine al fresco or enjoy and refreshing drink in the sunshine. Breakfast is served Saturday and Sunday 10am till 12pm, choose from a traditional English breakfast or there's lite bites if your just a little peckish. We have regular events throughout the year in aid of our local charities; our main event being CrossFest, an annual outdoor beer and music festival held during August Bank Holiday Weekend. There are live bands on an outdoor stage, real ale tent, gin bar, festival stalls, BBQ and much much more.

The pub was refurbished at the end of Summer 2013 with an extended dining area and new garden to the rear to complement the open area at the front of the pub. Small private functions can be held in an area of the restaurant which can be sectioned off.

We are only a short walk from The National Trust Coastline in Formby, with a glorious beach and dramatic sand dunes surrounded by sweeping coastal pinewoods. There's plenty of wildlife to see and wonderful walks to discover and if you've taken the dog then bring them back to the pub where they along with you can enjoy a drink in a beautiful beer garden. You can find us just off the Formby By-Pass(A5654) between Liverpool and Southport, just follow the signs.

Really friendly staff who couldn't do enough to help but food was not up to scratch unfortunately. I'll continue to use this pub for a few drinks with friends but won't be ordering food again for a while.

Popped in with my son (19) and daughter (16) for a celebration drink. Daughter wanted lime and soda but was advising me at the bar on which flavour cider to have. Bar staff member accused me of buying alcoholic drink for her and was loud and aggressive saying "what age is she" ? Told her she was just choosing the... More

We went for a meal. Although the waiting staff were very attentive. We waited over 30 mins for food. Yet there were only 3 other tables waiting for food. It arrived on cold plates and the vegetables were barely warm as if they had been put on the plate 15mins before the rest of the food. I had a 'special'... More

Came with my Nan and Grandad (who are a bit fussy now in their old age). My Grandad is also going a bit deaf so you need to raise your voice slightly to speak to him. I told the guy politely about this and he came over and dealt with him so well, spoke to him clearly and slowly but... More

The food here was very nice - when it arrived. We waited over 30 minutes for a sandwich. Our finished plates were left on the table for over 15 minutes and we ended up going to the bar to pay as we were ignored at the table.

New Management in the Cross House and small changes are already improving the food and service. More friendly layout and staff are very helpful and pleasant. Good selection of beers and more varied selection would be welcome.

Just visited the cross house for a lunch. There was lots of nice things to choose from on the menu. I decided on the Haddock florentine bake. It was delicious.
