Hidden gem behind a black door

Great service, lovely food, varied menu and good helpings! Stayed in the village with my dog and we were made very welcome on the two nights we ate here. Get there early in the evening though when it's a sunny weekend as you can't reserve tables.

We had drinks here after a trip to Exmore. Our dogs were welcomed and the pub was busy with tourists and locals alike. Very nice atmosphere, the food looked great although we didn't eat as we needed to get the dogs back for their dinner. Would definitely visit again to try the food.

We started at a nearby holiday let last week and went here for lunch. The food was lovely, some of the best pub food I've ever had. We took our dogs in which was a real bonus. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Just a shame we weren't staying longer so I could eat there again! Well worth a... More

My husband and i went for a meal on Friday night - no bookings but we went early and wereable to get a table. The pub is gorgeous with beams and fireplace. Our food was fab - i had lamb shank - lush! My husband had the Exmoor beast and he said this was delicious. The girls serving us were... More

We ate here on bank holiday Sunday, it was a little busy when we walked in but they found room for us and our dogs. It did get busier around 1.00 so probably better to get there earlier if you can. We did have difficulty choosing from the varied menu but settled on vegetable curry and salmon - both dishes... More

The Black Venus is one of the best pubs I have eaten in ,it's traditional not over done up,the food is fresh and expertly cooked ,cod and chips best ever had ,the cod had no batter and just melted and the chips at least twice cooked and well seasoned .highly recommend all the food ,

Dined here for the second time during our Easter week's holiday on Exmoor. It was definitely the best of the three meals out that week.Extensive and tempting menu, and we would recommend anyone visiting the area to go there.

Busy evening but managed to squeeze us in. Welcoming and warm! The food is good without being special but it's well worth a visit.

We stopped by for a first visit to try the Black Venus after a recommendation. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent, the beer was well kept and the welcome was friendly. Despite a hoard of ramblers descending on the Black Venus (asking stupid questions) the girls working front of house did a brilliant job, not only looking after... More
