My husband and I ate here 4 nights in a row whilst staying in Challacombe with our dog. We were greeted every evening with a smile by the waiting and bar staff. All were youngsters who were very efficient and welcolming. The food that we ordered was served piping hot, well cooked and plentyful. We sat in the bar area... More

What a lovely, authentic pub with wide range of food including daily separate fish menu - the crab salad was amazing & huge. Price excellent for portion sizes & quality of produce. Easy to find as on main road through with car park opposite. Lovely friendly people who run it & couldn't do enough for us.

We recently stayed in Challacombe for weekend away from the big smoke and we were not disappointed. The Black Venus was our closest pub (We stayed at Twitchen Farm B&B, a short 10min walk away) and we visited on two occasions for lunch and evening meal. The pub is warm and friendly with good service. They don't take reservations and... More

We came across the Black Venus whilst taking the scenic route across Exmoor on our way to Combe Martin, we were looking for a lunch stop and this looked perfect. The weather was lovely so we sat in the nice beer garden at the side of the pub. It was very peaceful and we were sorry we couldnt have lingered... More

I sought out this pub just by going for a drive over Exmoor and wanting some lunch. We are looking forward to our next visit as the fish and chips are the best I,ve ever had. You will find a great welcome and excellent service.

Friendly and great location, slightly alarmed a very large menu board, but all the food we ordered was tasty and we finished it all. Good beer and ciders wish there were more pubs like this. All to often pubs are only drinking pubs (fast disappearing) or foodie pubs and overpriced. Defiantly go again.

Went to the Black Venus as recommended by the B&B that we were staying at in Lynton. A very charming pub with very friendly staff. There was plenty of choice on the blackboard - we chose the beef and ale pie. We were not disappointed - a large plateful and really tasty. We had stocky toffe pudding for desert with... More
