Great expectations, but a little disappointing

I last visited the Springer Spaniel in 1997 when it was a fairly tired basic pub a short distance from Launceston with little to commend it. I did not expect to visit again but was tempted to give it a go when I discovered that it was now under Anton Piotrowski's ownership, and the menu looked... read more

Popped in on the off chance as it was literally 5 minutes from where we we staying. Early table & glad of it as it began to fill, even on a Tuesday. The staff were great & the food excellent

The food was exceptional, beautifully presented, and the service was excellent. My husband has specific dietary needs and the staff went through the menu with him in detail. This is not your run of the mill pub restaurant and the higher standard is reflected in the price. In our view however it is worth every penny.

My husband and I had a lovely quiet evening meal here. Food was great atmosphere was nice. We were a little cold and had to change tables to be next to the wood burner, but staff were happy to accommodate. Will return in the future.

Arranged a last minute birthday dinner out at the Springer Spaniel. The only table available was in the bar which was somewhat cold despite the wood burner - we had to put the logs on ourselves to keep it going. We moved into the restaurant after our starters as there were free tables by then. Service is still slightly amateurish... More

I really like this pub/restaurant and use it often. However, on my last couple of visits the bread was not fresh at all, and the triple cooked chips were well overcooked and we suspected they had been reheated. It would be a shame if the pub let things slip like this. Regulars will notice immediately if standards diminish and go... More

Called in for Sunday lunch on the way down to Cornwall for Holidays. Superb food with a quirky twist here and there, great presentation, prepared with great care and loads of flavour. Great service. Superb value - Set 2 course lunch for 2 with a large glass of wine each and a pint was around £50. Would definitely return.

I dont often give 5 stars so well done to the SS for this, I arrive not knowing what to expect as I did not realise we were in the company of a fellow Masterchef, I also was on Masterchef in 2009 although (a) did not win and (b) dont run a restaurant and (c) cant cook as good as... More

Popped in here quite by chance for a quick drink en route to Fowey for a short break. Lovely staff, nice wine but.......the bar snack of breaded anchovies with homemade tartare sauce were nothing short of LEGENDARY!! I have now persuaded my husband that stopping for lunch on our way home is a great idea.....looking forward to trying more things... More

We went as a party of 4 as a special occasion and were not disappointed..Both parties were 30 minutes away which is a reasonable travelling distance. The interior has the ambience of a country pub and the reserved seating is through several small areas. We were by the bar on a round table with plenty of room although some other... More
