We often go to Italy for vacation. This year we went to a family reunion instead. So when we were traveling through Utah, we used our GPS to find Italian restaurants. We picked Cucina Vanina because it didn't have a cliche Italian name. We were hoping for an authentic experience, not some Olive Garden type place. We were not disappointed!... More

Recently visited Cucina Vanina for dinner. Walked in, and it took some time to be greeted in a less than half-filed restaurant. Served a small plate of bread with tomato dipping sauce that reminded me a bit of salsa. Unusual. Had two different pasta dishes, including one where they had to substitute a different pasta because they ran out of... More

Our family group of 6 adults and 1 child enjoyed a delicious dinner. We were served wonderful bread to dip in olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and coarsely ground salt. In addition we ordered an antipasti plate that included various meats and vegetables and some cheese. I absolutely loved the lasagna! I tasted the spaghetti carbonara which I also loved. My... More

We were actually looking for another Italian restaurant (which had relocated) when we stopped at Vanina's. The hostess met greeted us warmly and was very friendly and accommodating, as well as being an excellent chef. The food was outstanding, with great flavor and variety of dishes. My only comment is that the dishes were of good size, but not enough... More

Top quality Southern Italian cooking. Vanina is a personality, as well as a skilled chef. Spaghetti is al dente and the meatballs are large. The veal received rave reviews from my companion. Though the wine list is thin (this is Utah, of course) there are a couple of good suggestions. Reservations recommended after 6:00 pm.

I stay in Cottonwood Heights one week a year for skiing. If I was limited to one restaurant for the week, this would be it. I've been going there every year at least twice during my stay since it opened. Food like your mom used to make, if your mom was a great Italian cook. Not fancy or pretentious. Doesn't... More

Their homemade pasta is excellent. The lasagna was very good and the portion size was adequate. The gnocchi was a special and was probably the best I have ever had. Don't expect a huge menu but do expect the dishes they serve to be excellent.

Lunch at Cucina Vanina was absolutely wonderful. I was pleased with the atmosphere and decor the moment I entered - the restaurant is full of light, not cluttered, very simply and tastefully done, with some very imaginative touches. They brought us some fabulous fresh basil bread and equally good tomato-garlic dipping sauce right away. This led me to order the... More

I gave this restaurant a tough test. I took two Italians with me. They both loved it. They said that the owner/chef was a wonderful person in addition to being a great cook.
