Great food with wonderful service. The meals were all very well presented. You may want to skip a starter unless you are feeling very hungry. We failed to finish our main courses on all three evenings. We therefore never got to try dessert. The wines while not cheap were of a very good standard for the price. Well worth trying.

We arrived at the Pheasant Inn on a cold wet night in January. Inside there was a warm and welcoming bar with a fire going, and the entrance to the Bistro. We had a very good dinner. The fish was well cooked, followed by a chocolate dessert. The Bistro has a lively relaxed atmosphere and you can order local beer... More

I've never been to The Pheasant despite it being on my wish-list for years. However today we went for lunch and it was exceptional. You're taken very good care of with drinks being ordered from the lounge before going into the restaurant. A cosy and comfortable setting, the place is very old and has character. But on to the food.... More

Unable to comment on food as we did not stay long enough to sample it. We visited on a Monday lunchtime at the end of December. There was a lady serving in the bar and one loud male customer. The man was 'holding court' and loudly denouncing the newly opened local distillery. There was no greeting to us and no... More

Wonderful Cambrian hospitality. Excellent local real ale, with two eateries the Bistro was full so we went to the restaurant. Good service and quality food. The well stocked bar was very busy with welcoming locals.

This country pub we stumbled upon on our last visit to Bassenstwaite, the food was so good we dined again in September. The food is among the best we have ever had and as good if not better than 5 star restaurants. The staff are exceptionally pleasant, there is the choice of dining in the lounge or restaurant, and their... More

The Pheasant, sitting close to Bassenthwaite lake some twenty minute's drive west of the M6, may not seem like the obvious location for a gastronomic pit stop when travelling long distance, but for our purposes it was perfect. Access off the adjacent fast road is tricky, but once in the pub car park, the rambling building surrounded by lush greenery,... More

I dined with the Pheasant Inn on Saturday 29th June for a very special occasion - my father's 70th birthday, however utterly disappointed just about sums up the service and food that my party (4 of us) experienced. Firstly, the Fell restaurant. We sat in the corner of the restaurant with no view of the fells at all except for... More

We booked the bistro for Sunday Lunch, well in advance and turned up at the appointed hour. Having recently moved to the area, we were looking forward to adding another Inn to our local repertoire of eateries. Upon ordering we were informed that there was no beef left, and were offered a steak substitute instead. My wife ordered the pork,... More
