Wonderful Cambrian hospitality. Excellent local real ale, with two eateries the Bistro was full so we went to the restaurant. Good service and quality food. The well stocked bar was very busy with welcoming locals.

This country pub we stumbled upon on our last visit to Bassenstwaite, the food was so good we dined again in September. The food is among the best we have ever had and as good if not better than 5 star restaurants. The staff are exceptionally pleasant, there is the choice of dining in the lounge or restaurant, and their... More

The Pheasant, sitting close to Bassenthwaite lake some twenty minute's drive west of the M6, may not seem like the obvious location for a gastronomic pit stop when travelling long distance, but for our purposes it was perfect. Access off the adjacent fast road is tricky, but once in the pub car park, the rambling building surrounded by lush greenery,... More

I dined with the Pheasant Inn on Saturday 29th June for a very special occasion - my father's 70th birthday, however utterly disappointed just about sums up the service and food that my party (4 of us) experienced. Firstly, the Fell restaurant. We sat in the corner of the restaurant with no view of the fells at all except for... More

We booked the bistro for Sunday Lunch, well in advance and turned up at the appointed hour. Having recently moved to the area, we were looking forward to adding another Inn to our local repertoire of eateries. Upon ordering we were informed that there was no beef left, and were offered a steak substitute instead. My wife ordered the pork,... More

Following my 'average' review in August 2013, I must congratulate the staff (kitchen & front of house) for the improved service. The same menu is now served in the bistro and dining room with an additional small charge added for the more formal setting in the dining room (amuse bouche incuded, very tasty). The bistro is now very popular and... More

went for walk in the forestry nearby then stopped for Sunday lunch. It is a old coaching inn iwth character. It was about three quarters full and the staff were very polite showing us to our table and taking a drinks order. We then both ordered the roast pork and that arrived before the drinks. I wouldn't have thougth a... More

The review says it all really, we visited the pheasant having booked a table for 4 at 8pm on a Saturday evening. On arrival we had to look for a member of staff to point us in the right direction. We were seated in the lounge and our drinks orders taken and canapés brought to us. We were then taken... More

I was fortunate enough to be taken here to dine by a family member whilst we were on holiday. From start to finish the standard of the food was exceptional. The main course vegetarian option I ordered was the most satisfying vegetarian meal I've probably had anywhere ever. Just first class. Service was attentive but not fussy, and the environment...
