Authentic Puerto Rican & Cuban Food. Many people write about it in their reviews of the Rio Mar in Rio Grande, PR. I would love to write a review about this place as it was the best Mofungo (fried mashed plantains) we had in PR (and we tried it in 4 restaurants).

Best meal while staying at Wyndham - was not at Wyndham

We went to dinner at Don Pepe's while staying at the Wyndham Rio Mar in April and really loved our experience. The food was much better and more authentic than what was at the hotel, we thought. Plus, the drinks were delicious and actually seemed to have alcohol in them - compared to many we had... read more

Lets start by the drinks: White Sangria and Red Sangria were fantastic. Appetizers really good, we have a cocktail of really fresh shrimps. For the main course I order "Chillo en salsa criolla" my wife "mofongo relleno de churrasco". Mine was delicious. My wife dont seem very happy with her food, so I give it a try and honestly....was bad!... More

The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a great breakfast menu but they open later in the morning. Everything is always excellent and the prices, for Puerto Rico are reasonable.

Foods is amazing! Service to perfection. Live acoustic music on weekends. You can't go wrong with this place. Every time I go, ask for something different and is better!

During our 4 day, 3 night stay in PR last month, this was definitely one of the highlights of our stay! We stayed at the Wyndham and a staff member recommended this for authentic Puerto Rican fare, and she couldn't have made a better suggestion. It was an exquisite dining experience all around. The intimate setting inside, the warm and... More

Don't pay expensive prices for resort food if staying in the Rio Grande area, go to Don Pepes instead. Ate there 4 times over two years and the food is consistent and delicious. Generous portions also. Puerto Rican cusine at a price where dinner will cost less than a sub par breakfast at a resort.

Food was amazing. Service ok. Very small place. Prices were just outrageous. $100 for 4 people with no specialty drinks. 10 min down the road you'll find the Luquillo kiosks. The issue there is parking but had almost all the same dishes for $30. Not fancy places so don't expect super service but for the price I'll skip the service.

Locals say you should try it. Not necessary. Very busy on weekends; better to go on Monday. There were only four tables. Grouper bites app - lightly fried and a great way to start Meals - Crab sauté mofongo. Crab and ingredients were good, but this was my first mofongo. While I like plantains mashed, there were too many to... More

Really good Criollo cuisine. Their "Arroz con Pollo" reminds me of my mother's, and their plantain breaded steak, chicken and fish are scrumptious! Some of the tastiest Carne Frita and Chuletas Kan Kan I have ever had, and their Mofongos (yuca and plantain) are seriously good. Even their breakfasts are awesome!! If you are really hungry, try a "Cocodrilo"!!!
