Al Becco della Civetta Restaurant in Castelmezzano

We drove 3 hours from Maratea to have lunch at Al Becco della Civetta. in Castelmezza. The restaurant is perched in a mountain top with amazing views. We arrive at 2pm for lunch and were quite early by Italian standards so there was only 1 other couple in the restaurant. We received great... read more

I had the great honor of dining and experiencing the food, staff and fabulous views at this restaurant. The staff are most friendly and helpful, let me add I don't speak Italian and got on just fine. The food lovely, the views are beyond words!!! You must put this town and restaurant on your must do and see in Italy!!!... More

This is the restaurant part of La Locanda Hotel, where we stayed. We found the food delicious and pertaining to the local area. Wine list excellent, again many local wines to try out.

if it wasn't the best it was definitely one of the best dinners we had in last couple of years. The pasta dishes were to die for but what took our breath away was the meat. We had ordered grilled lamb and tagliata di vitello and both dishes were simply divine, extremely well cooked and so tender one could cut... More

This was a splendid meal. And the service from Salvatore was the best we've had in Italy so far. The lamb might also have been the best I've ever had anywhere.

If you are visiting Castelmezzano or even just driving around, exploring nearby villages, this restaurant is not to be missed. It is a bit on the pricier side, but it is a very high quality take on authentic Lucanian food, with a wine list to match. The view over Castelmezzano from the window-side tables is beautiful, and you can buy... More

We knew Castelmezzano was a wonderful place to go. It's listed as one of Italy's Most Beautiful Villages (I Borghi Piu Belli d'Italia) and was featured in the German magazine GeoSaison. We planned to have lunch here but found it closed when we arrived at 12:30pm. Disappointed, we walked around the village seeking an alternative. Several locals were eager to... More

Visiting pietrapertosa, our family's ancestral home we stumbled upon becco Della civetta across the gorge in castalmezzano. The impeccably prepared primi brought us back to my grandmother's cooking. Don't miss a delicious antipasto plate with typical cured meats of the region and a phenomenal homemade ricotta. The staff was attentive and passionate about all the goings on in the restaurant.... My best italian experience! Run by a lady farmer who loves her food and shares that passion, and it's sublime. And very friendly professional staff. I felt I could trust them with the menu degustation, the homemade pasta, the meat from their own farm, the total control of ingredients, sauces... It was heavenly. The suggestion of wine was exellent, particular... More

Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. The dinning room was full of families and everybody visibly was having a good time and were happy.. We were the only non italian. We were treated warmly and received great service. As a vegetarian the chef adjusted the Manu and it was one of the best vegi meals I can recall.... More
