Stretching over an entire city block the Centre houses a world class art gallery, Mavor's restaurant, a locally supplied gift shop, three expansive conference rooms, and a beautiful 1200 seat theatre. A library, an outdoor amphitheater, and spacious outdoor courtyard are also located on site. The Mack theatre is owned and operated by the Centre which is located steps away. It’s a big year for The Charlottetown Festival (the Centre’s annual summer festival) with five different productions. In the Centre’s intimate studio theatre, love blossoms at the blue line in Hockey Mom, Hockey Dad. Two lonely single parents find romance at the rink – watching their kids play a season of minor hockey from the sidelines. This romantic comedy has toured every province in Canada, and was written by Cape Bretoner Michael Melski and directed by Adam Brazier, Artistic Director of The Charlottetown Festival. The Mack welcomes Bittergirl: The Musical to the stage. Howlingly funny, relatable and emotionally Cathartic, Bittergirl follows three Canadian women in their plunge from what they think is romantic bliss to total breakup, devastation and through the journey back to happiness. The musical features 1960’s pop and doowop hits such as Dion’s ‘The Wanderer’, Shirelles ‘Mama Said’, ‘The Ronnettes’, ‘Be My Baby’, hits from the Supremes, and more. Featured in the Homburg Stage is Anne of Green Gables-The Musical™, recently named world’s longest running annual musical by Guinness World Records! This classic family musical has been seen by millions world-wide and toured to Broadway, London, and Tokyo. The cast is comprised of 26 pros from all across Canada whose elite triple-threat skills continue to amaze audience. The Homburg Theatre also welcomes the Atlantic Canadian premiere of the Stratford Festival/National Arts Centre hit Alice Through the Looking-Glass. The Production follows young Alice, who climbs through her living-room mirror, entering a world of wonders populated by such fantastical characters as Humpty Dumpty, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, and the fearsome Jabberwock. Children and adults alike will be delighted by this spectacular journey into the tobsy-turvy realm of the dreaming world. Finishing off the season on the Homburg Stage is Evangeline, inspired by Longfellow’s famous poem. Written and conceived by Ted Dykstra, this critically acclaimed production recounts the tale of star-crossed lovers Gabriel and Evangeline, torn apart during the 1755 Acadian Deportation. The Charlottetown Festival season opens June 11 and continues to October 10, at Confederation Centre in Charlottetown. Get your tickets today! less
