  "We chose El Palomar because we wanted a base for walking in the pine woods of Parque Natural de Acantilado and it was perfect for this. Other reviewers have described the hotel rooms below in much detail; we would confirm our room was comfortable, clean and fit for purpose. We enjoyed two dinners a..."nd the cooking was very good. We liked the way the offering departed from the printed menu based on what was fresh and available and that there was a Rioja vino de casa @ €8. The meal was good value. Although the late September weather was variable we did test the swimming pool, which is a good size. We read that the hotel was difficult to find - the tip is to arrive by daylight and to read the instructions on the website. There are plenty of signs - some just with a pigeon and an arrow, which reminds me to mention the dovecot, which is amazing.   "We stayed here in February and stayed in one of the bungalows. The site is clean and tidy with rubbish bins emptied regularly and wash facilities cleaned often. The bungalows were great with built in log fires. A walk in the nearby woods provides plenty of pine cones to burn. Pine trees cover ..."the site offering some shade in summer I would think. The on site restaurant/bar is fabulous: Friday lunch sees a tapas and beer being offered for €1.50 and the chef, Philipe prepared some genuinely outstanding dishes in the evening - really not to be missed! In addition, the surrounding area has lots to do. Seville is a train journey away from the great station at San Fernando, Cadiz not far at all and then the selection of lovely hilltop towns, medina sidonia and vejer not to be missed.   "Originally we did not plan to stop there, and was nicely surprised by this place not like others. It is actually not easy to find - from the main road between Barbate and Los Canos de la Meca you go in direction of San Ambrosio and once you see a pigeon sign, you follow it till you see the white wal..."ls, or the lights at night, in spite of the road that seems ending :) The hosts are calm, helpful, hospitable and the evening meal - we took 'sardinas' and 'pollo' - was really good. In the morning one of the hosts took us to the roof to see the dovecote from above, before we went downstairs to look more closely at it. Really an amazing place. " More >
