It generally is. I don't find that to be the case in these hotels. If one is looking for overenthusiastic honey-coated friendliness, I'd suggest Disneyland/world/ life. Make a little respectful effort to show some interest in the people, the region and the history and you will be richly rewarded.   "We had arranged to stay at this hotel for one night only, however we had an experience to remember for a long time. During our stay there was a blizzard and the Prefecture de police put a red warning out so that no civilan vehicles could use the roads! We had no heat or hot water for a couple of day..."s but some guests were working for EDF and found a generator in one of the vans. This got linked up to the boiler and whilst there was fuel we had hot water and heat....wonderful. The owner, Denis couldn't have been more helpful. He fed us by cooking over a log fire, had an enormous amount of candles that he had bought just before the roads were closed. He is one of the most sociable owners that I have ever come across, his english is almost perfect and the staff that managed to get in were really helpful.
