"We stayed 4 days at this house located 11 miles away from Hilo, near the village of Honomu. The place is perfect if you're looking to be away from everything for a couple of days. It sits on 2 acres of land in the tropical forest, consisting of banana, mango and avocado trees, and it's recommended t..."o have a 4x4 to drive on the last part of the road, since it's pretty bumpy, although a normal car can also make it without problem. The paved part of the road getting there is quite spectacular, passing through a small tropical valley with giant trees all around.
The house itself is spacious, with 3 large bedrooms, living room and kitchen/ dining area. There's a great view of the Pacific ocean with the sunrise every morning. The area is obviously very quiet. The eco-green aspect of the house was not a problem for us, we always had enough water (rain catching system) and electricity supply was fine (solar panels). The only problem we had, and we mentioned it to the caretakers of the pl...

"I heard through a friend that this place was opening for business. I contacted Stefan and he said the Lodge was trying to get the rooms open for Merrie Monarch, the Hawaiian Hula festival, but not all the furniture had arrived. The web site looked nice but I could not find any reviews. Most of the p..."laces in Hilo were sold out so I took a chance and reserved a room.
The lodge is clean and very tropical. Hawaii is a bit humid but inside felt dry. I think the site pics don't do this place justice. Stefan says he doesn't want to over-promise but I think he needs better pics. The rooms are large and spacious. When I checked in, there was a lack of chairs in the rooms, but they arrived before I left.
Not all the rooms were done but three rooms were ready. I was in the Mango room. It has a great view of the farm from the inside and an ocean view from the balcony. I left the door open at night and could hear the waterfall and the ocean waves (and the frogs and crickets). The only blemis...

"This is a well-appointed home with the amenities needed for a comfortable stay in Paradise. You are close to the Hawaii Botanical Gardens and Akaka Falls; two of the must-see sights on the Big Island. The home is true to the description and photos given by the owner on the Tripadvisor site. Don and..." Norma Jean are really friendly folks who live a couple of blocks away and are very responsive to requests. When we arrived from the airport, Don was there within 5 minutes to meet us with the key. Everything in the home is high quality, from the comfortable beds to the furnishings and laundry equipment. They even provided laundry soap. The fitted sheets did not fit the bed well and we had to adjust the sheets before we went to bed. Don had a good suggestion to stop for groceries before coming to the house from the airport as there are no stores close by. Hilo is about 7 miles away and has everthing you need. We were not sure from the description if there was a microwave available so tha...
