  "We have stayed in many of the cottages in Portmeirion but this time we opted for Castell Deudraeth. The room was a Grand Double. It overlooked the car park with beautiful view of the snow capped mountains. The room was very large, light and airy with underfloor heating. There was also a coal effect..." fire if needed. There is no double glazing but working wooden shutters to keep out the chill...delightful. The bed was comfortable with spotless bedlinen. The bath robes and slippers were a nice touch. My favourite L'occitane in the bathroom with huge fluffy towels...luxury! The staff were, as always, extremely helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. I have been a little mean and only given four stars. I dropped a star because I burnt my hand on the teapot. It had a ceramic handle which becomes extremely hot so be careful. Also my husband found the fact that the taps were on the side of the bath but the temperature controls were at the end of the bath difficult to manage. Having j... " More >

  "The Fabulous Unicorn."
  "The Unicorn is the big pink house on the hill in Portmeirion. We stayed there for three nights in February. A big plus is that you are able to park right outside your front door. The Unicorn is huge with a double bedroom ensuite and a twin bedroom ensuite. There's a large sitting room in the centre ..."with squashy leather sofas. Plenty of tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc. There's also bottled water and sherry. There were only two of us so we had a bathroom each...what bliss. The toiletries are L'occitane. Nothing cheap and cheerful here ! The bath towels are huge and fluffy and snow white. The staff, as always are brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble for them. My especial thanks to the delightful young receptionist at the hotel who is endlessly patient with me. The first night we were there it was quite cold and the heating didn't come on. I phoned reception and quite literally within a few moments someone was there to sort it out. Portmeirion is a magical place and it comes into it's own... " More >
