"I stayed 2 weekday nites at the newly restored Madalin Hotel - I was by myself and never visited ths aea of the Hudson Valley before. Although I had a local friend to guide me around the area, my plan was to scout out future accomodations for when my very particular retired husband travels with me. ..."The hotel is simply beautiful - meticulously restored and totally reinvented. It is charming but so incredibly sleek - not a nic nac in sight! Everything you need but no clutter. No dusty drapes, no dust at all! I was in a queen room with 4 poster bed - high quality linens in earthtones balanced the preserved architectural details of the room with not a bit of chintz in the bedding! The hi tech bathroom was spotless and gleaming - no noisy plumbing or questionable shower curtains to deal with. What you do at the Madalin in Tivoli is simple - have a delicious dinner at the hotel's fabulous restaurant, go upstairs to enjoy a perfectly quiet and pleasant night's rest, and leave in the morning ...

"Great spot, a little off the beaten track but that's what we liked about it. Our room was comfortable, bed was great. Only improvement I would make would be to add some shelf space and/or hooks in the bathroom, there was no place to put our stuff down in there. Otherwise, the room was fine, the r..."estaurant was very good (we ate there twice,) and there were other good restaurants in town within easy walking distance. Also, many good restaurants within a 15 minute drive, as well. Lots of great sightseeing & culture within easy distance, and the proprietor was extremely friendly and informative.

I had a massive king-size bed, and plenty of room around it! The hotel has a brilliant restaurant with truly excellent food, a..."nd a great bar.
The only downside is that Tivoli is a fairly small place so things close early, including the hotel restaurant and bar, and the bar isn't open every day. When it is, however, it's really great fun, and the bartender knows how to make a proper drink. One thing I'd have really appreciated - as there is nowhere in Tivoli to buy things - is a large bottle of mineral water in the room on arrival and then perhaps an order card system where you could ask for water and fruit (for example) to be put in the room during the maid service and added to the bill. This would be useful for the times when the bar is closed and the excellent Joe (owner and host) is not present. An ironing b...
