After an internet search, we settled on the town of McCloud and the Mercantile Hotel as a candidate. Great choice! The hotel occupies the ..."upper floors of the Mercantile building, a long, two story wood commercial building with a steeply pitched gable roof, and a history that began in 1895. The hotel has a wide variety of rooms under that roof gable. A least some were probably originally used for functions other than sleeping. But no matter, they have been carefully crafted into the upper floor, with walls filling in old openings, floors raised in bathrooms to accommodate plumbing, old stairways sealed off, all of which adds to the intrigue of what must have happened there at one time.   "My husband and I stayed here overnight in the President's Map Room on a road trip from WA to CA late Dec. 2012. I loved the big bathroom and the clawfoot tub and the sheets were incredibly comfortable. We had a little difficulty adjusting the heater but managed to get it working. Breakfast was a..."mazing and I managed to get a second helping of the egg dish they were serving since they didn't have many guests. The whole town was covered in several feet of snow this time of year which made driving at night impossible so we walked over to the little cafe in the Mercantile building (which closes at 4 pm).
