Dominique (who is also a great vegetarian cook), Virginia and their son of seven are absolutely down to earth people who will go that extra mile to make you feel at home. Then there is the Rainforest, the falls, the views of the mountains, the wind and rain to consider that Santiago Cumiragua offers, all close to Posada Finca El Monte. For those of you who are reading this we recommend for reservation to call - as to the time of this writing there were no internet accessibility to that part of Cumiragua.   "Wonderful posada and great host!"
  "We stayed here (also known as Casa de los Pajaros) for a few days and had a relaxing and enjoyable time! This is one of my favourite places that I have stayed at so far on my travels! The owner Roberto is wonderful and couldn't be more helpful. He was responsive to my many emails - I must have ..."changed our dates with him about six times as it was at the start of our travels and I was trying to organise too much too far in advance! He also organised some wonderful tours and took us personally to on these tours. His knowledge of the local area and Venezuela as a whole is very impressive and his English is spot on! Our room was lovely - we stayed in Flamingo - and very quaint and clean (for anyone who reads my reviews you will know this is important)! It was off of the little back courtyard and was quiet and relaxing. The bathroom is part of the room which is unusual but was sweet and we liked it.   "Best place to disconnect from cell phones/internet and reconnect with nature"
  "You literally live within nature when you stay at Finca el Monte. The area surrounding it is beautiful and there are many options available to keep you busy if you like hiking, birding or caving. The owners, Virginia and Dominique, are originally from France and really know how to make great meals. ..."It has quite possibly been the best food I have had on this trip so far (6 weeks and counting) and much of their ingredients are from their own garden. Even the coffee beans are harvested from their garden, roasted by them, and then ground into an excellent coffee. They have a list of trips you can make and the two I took (Camina de los Españoles with the waterfall and sinkhole tour, as well as the Paraguiaba hike) were well worth it—though much cheaper if you have a group to split the cost. My room was good and the views were amazing. But the best feature of the Finca for me was that I didn't have cell phone access or internet to distract me—truly a great place to disconnect from distractio... " More >
