We booked the lodge because it was close to San Jose and the Poas Volcano and the price was right, and we didn't really know what to expect from the photos of the outside. During the day you can watch cows in their hillside pasture and hummingbirds which abound at the feeders, and at night, the twinkling lights of San Jose in the far distance add a romantic ambience that cannot be over stated. The Lodge has a truly eclectic-cozy-warm-hippy-coffee shop-almost chalet-style feel to it that is immediately welcoming. Our room was cozy and inviting with a modern stylish bathroom and bedside tea and coffee. The common areas in the hotel will take your breath ..."away. It has a rustic elegance that blends into the surrounding countryside beautifully. Sitting in the library or the game room, it is as if you are the only guest at the resort. We came from Flamingo Beach and were shocked by the cold weather you encounter up in the mountains. Bring a jacket! Poas Volcano is a beautiful sight to see. Make sure you check it out while you are in the area. We also went to La Paz waterfall gardens. It is more for families, as it is somewhat like a zoo, but the waterfalls are breathtaking. We only got to stay here two days after being in Arenal Volcano area and at Flamingo Beach, but this was my favorite hotel of the trip. Highly recommended! " More >
