  "We stopped by on a road trip from the golden triangle. Didn't want to stay in a concrete building, wanted somewhere with a bit of character, so glad we found this resort at the foot of the mountains. We were the only people at the resort on the Sunday night that we stayed but that suited us fine. ..."The little huts around the lake with the balconies where spacious and clean, with tv, fridge and massive bed. You could here the calling from the local temple which lended to the thai feel. There seemed to be a bit of work going on over the other side of the resort but that didn't bother us, felt like they were perhaps upgrading a bit. The location is about a 8 minute drive south from Mae Sai (look for blue water tower and take turn off opposite) into the mountains, we were able to find the road to Doi Tung from there and a lovely forest park.   "This was my first stay at the Wanliya Resort, Mae Sai. It is located just outside the downtown area of Mae Sai and too far to walk there. However, if you do have your own transport, the owners will loan you a motorbike to get you there and back or will call a m/c taxi to take you there which costs j..."ust 40 baht. If you have a car then getting into town and back is very easy. The Resort is about ten minutes from the border crossing point and is quite big and has a nice shaded swimming pool which is good as well as a restaurant but apart from breakfast that wasn’t operating during my visit In April 2013. The chalet rooms are large and comfortable though let down in appearance with very functional and cheap furniture. Another quirk was that there was an electric kettle but no cups or saucers and no tea/coffee making things. The shower room/toilet were ok.
