We were lucky that my son lived locally and was willing to drive in and out each day so we could experience more of the local flavor since we didn't take any of the very pricey tours offered at the lodge. The heat and humidity really got me and there is no air conditioning. The overhead fans do not help at all. My son went out and bought a free standing fan for our room and brought his from home. That really helped a lot. Unless you tolerate heat well I would go in November when it is cooler. We were picked up Dosio and driven to Macal River. Right away we knew that we had made the right choice. We had a cabin looking directly into the jungle. It was very simple with 2 beds, 2 small tables and 2 kerosene lanterns. You have a covered veranda with 2 chairs and 2 hammocks. There are larger cabins that sleep 4. The roof is comprised of a heavy duty tarp and you have screens on all sides. The cost was $55/ person and that includes breakfasts and dinners.
