In our house there was, on the ground floor, a kitchen and small bath room and a corridor to a very narrow garden that was overlooked by a dove cote and other timber houses. Up a steepish stair the bed room occupied the first floor, and had several windows overlooking the alley, another steepish stairway led to a lounge in the roof with a pointed ceiling and a TV!
