More details: After a few days in Reykjavik, (the only place I've stayed before), we took a 45m flight to Akureyri. Unlike a domestic flight in the US, it's easy. Buy your ticket, get on, buckle up, fly. On the flight, I got to see some snowy spots and fjords in the middle of Iceland (from a distance - enjoyable but forget the camera). In Akureyri, the drive to the Icelandair hotel is short. (All drives in town are short). First impressions: Looks better than the picture. Budget accommodation in Akureyri at this time of year is very limited so quite honestly the hostel could have been rubbish would have still been busy, it's therefore very nice to be able to say that the hostel was excellent. The location was great loca..."tion right in the centre of Akureyri , within easy walking distance of the bus stop and about a 20 minute walk to the airport. The funky bar area downstairs was good for meeting fellow travellers (and a free drink on arrival, most welcome!) The dorm was a good size, clean and simple, with good beds (although it could have done with some more power sockets!) The staff were excellent, sorting any issues out quickly and giving some good advice on the local area, road conditions, and transport onwards. The hostel was fairly busy in April so I think in the Summer you may well need to book well in advance to get a bed! " More >
