This is definitely a hotel I will visit again and I highly recommend for anyone traveling through Colima. I did not eat at the hotel, but the dining area was very clean, and there were many people eating. I was given a map of the area and also some recommendations on where to visit. From the courtyard that has lemon and orange trees and a lot of sunshine, the lovely backyard and the wonderful colors and design of the hotel, it`s really a relaxing and nice pla..."ce to stay. The rooms are all beautiful (the owner was kind enough to show me around) and you can see that all pieces of furniture were carefully hand picked, to the huge and comfortable beds with egyptian cotton linen, to the huge bronze sinks, beautiful paintings by local artists and all the other furniture in the rooms. The owner and his wife were so friendly and attentionate! They showed me pictures of all the renovations they did to the hotel after buying this old house of a Governator (hence the name).   "We were located in the older rooms around a well maintained court yard and fountain. This may not be your ideal location if you are concerned about other guests outside your room window/door. There were approximately eight other rooms in this area and the court yard is a common area. Also, there wer..."e no window screens to prevent mosquitoes from entering the wood shuddered window. A bit of an inconvenience since you do need the fan running in March. But, the staff was helpful and friendly. They even stored our bags while we traveled for a few days. The Internet functioned well. We were a few blocks from the main Jardin (park square) with a large Jardin across the street. There is an air conditioned TV room in the area beside the court yard. Overall, La Merced is a good value with clean rooms and a great location in the center of Colima. This was our second stay and we will use it again.
