"Uncle Ben´s Guest House is new and probably the best choice in town. The rooms are clean and have an own shower/toilett, also very clean! The guesthouse is safe, quiet, has an own generator for power and the owner is very helpful and friendly.
The Kono District is one of the poorest districts in..." this country that is among the poorest in the world. Koidu Town was heavily destroyed during the civil war. Projects like Uncle Ben´s Guest House are a ray of light for this region and great choice for a stay if they want to visit the diamond mines in and around Koidu Town.

"I stayed at Uncle Ben's for 2 whole months October and November 2012. As other reviewers have pointed out, Koidu has barely moved on from the devastation caused by the war, that is until you come to Uncel Ben's named after the charming and friendly young gentleman who runs what started as a small gu..."sted house and is gradually mushrooming into a a quaint 60 room hotel nestled away on its own enclosed site off the main Koidu Freetown road. It is near central Koidu (the 55 spot to be exact). The Hotel is undergoing continuing and extensive renovations and despite all the work going on while I was there, the hotel was kept clean and was safe, secure and quiet at night (walking security guards, high walls, gates etc all add to a sense of security although Koidu is actually a relatively safe small city). I had belongings of value in my room for 2 months. The room was cleaned out and beds changed everyday. Nothing was disturbed ever in my room. Of course, you don't expect that in Africa - th...

"We stayed at Uncle Ben's nearly three weeks - we were in Koidu for a mission project. The rooms, with private baths, were spotless. Fresh linens were provided every other day. We had generators providing electricity from about 9 pm to 5 am which in May was a godsend since we had fans. There was la..."undry service, and breakfast every morning. The veranda-like dining facilities provided a great view of the western sky, particularly during the thunderstorms. While there we met so many other international guests. I daresay by week two I felt at home. My only complaint was the table in the room was rickety (essentially a board screwed into the plaster wall so as the table was pulled by gravity it was pulling out plaster) and the toilet seats were fragile and broken. But, given the condition of Koidu, a town that is still ravaged from war, that was a very minor inconvenience. As another writer said, Uncle Ben gave us hope that some day Koidu and Sierre Leone will be whole again.
